great run though walang medal after the race…! ok lang…
next year ulit!
it’s funny that when we traverse buendia first and inside bgc second, it seems like a brand new route. aside from the darkness along kalayaan flyover, there’s no other flaws that i can pinpoint. great race , sufficient hydration and cooperative weather.
very nice & smooth run!
Talo si Rio dito. mura pa. Pwede pala mura ang patakbo.
The 5km route was only 4.76km…otherwise, very nice!
My GPS watch recorded 9.77km for the 10K route.
What I didn’t like about the 10K route was that part along Buendia where we shared the road with runners from another fun run. I found it difficult to manage my pace due to the volume of runners on both sides of the road.
But aside from these, I agree with what people have said here. The run was a success and is a great way to start the new year.
Mine have registered 10.4 and my buddies at 10.34k
My GPS logged in 21.69 KM. Could be the most “hydrated” run I have ever joined in. :)
Anyway, any news on the woman who collapsed right before the 20KM mark?
That was a scary sight. When I saw her she was already being resuscitated.
Ansaya nung bull run kanina. first time ko sumali and i think i did well. Managed to finish the 5k run in 24 mins and 7 secs time which is my personal best. Seeing all the winners and 21k finishers, nakakaengganyo magtraining.
Omg i hope she is ok. Runners should not push themselves if they feel that their bodies can’t handle it. This run proved challenging to me, with a slight fever and non-stop coughs the hydration stations were my savior!
Good job to the organizers! Is it just me or parang pagdating sa workout mahina yung mic. Hehehe
I salute the PSE Bull Run organizers. It was my 3rd year to join this event and yet you didn’t fail the runners to provide a smooth, well organized and affordable race. Water/Pocari stations were abundant, even located every 700m or 800m of the route. It was even my first time to see a hydration station on top of Kalayaan Bridge! Pocari and banana were strategically located so that only long distance runners (that is, 21k) can have that needed electrolytes and potassium, which for me is only fair. Looking forward for 2014 PSE Bull Run. God bless!
Thank You Lord
for letting me Finish the 21K this morning, injury-free,
Sub-2 Finish and a new PR of 1 hour 51 mins, breaking my record
of 1 hour and 52 minutes last 2011…
and still able to pace my team mate in his last 3k.
This is a good start for this year!
Congratz to all runners!
Lets pray for the runner who collapse…
May namatay daw? same runner ba un dun sa nag collapse?
Oo nga may hinimatay daw kanina, he was given CPR by the medics. Sabi ng sis ko, lalaki daw. Tinaas nanraw yung damit for CPR. Hope he’s fine talaga.
Over all, it was great run, though lampas nang half km ang route ng 21k. Well hydrated run., lalo ung pocari, isang buong baso. Heehee
@7 dave, @ 8 ian, @ 9 arch, the runner that collapsed, is he a fast pace runner?
One of our Running Friend pass today during the PSE BullRun, he collapsed along the route around 4Km from the finishing line. Please pray for the soul of Romel F Defeo – Sigue Correr Runners (SCR) President.
:(
thank GOD, I survived my first ever half mary. sana ok na ung ngcolapse kaning sa may STI.
I missed that part going to Intl School (mga 3k pa yun) because there is no direction and marshals are busy looking at the poor runner being resuscitated (i heard he’s ok na thank God). I followed those turning left on that corner. Kaya pala nauna pako ng mga 20 mins sa mga kasabayan ko he he…
a very sad day. inapiran ko pa sya nung nasalubong ko sya sa daan kanina. tapos ngaun wala na sya. :(
Sad to hear the news. Sana may organize ng run to commemorate him. Lahat ng runners, let’s pray for him.
e-runner,
honestly, i don’t know. so the one who died was a he. i thought it was a woman. i didn’t pay much attention because it was scary. :( it was right before the 20 km mark. i just turned right back to the main avenue when i saw people congregating around a person lying down on the floor. he (at first i thought a woman) was already being resuscitated by a medic. it didn’t look good, honestly.
i don’t know with you guys. im a casual runner but i knew the scheduled gun start, albeit followed, was a bit late. this being said, i knew something bad will happen to someone (including me) when i turned left to 34th street (not sure if 34h though, it is the street where the start and finish of color manila run was located). the sunlight was just too much. it was scorching hot. lucky for me i was able to get a bottle of pocari before the corner where snr is located.
torrotot,
sorry for your loss. condolences to the family. :(
I believe it’s bib#7282 as i remember. Nakakalungkot ito kung ganon, last time our friend also died in Milo.
correction: “something bad MIGHT happen not WILL happen”
the event was great pero comment ko lang dun sa mga marshall.. sana me nag guguide para dun sa mga late runners na nahuli sa gun start. I was running for 1Ok but no one bother to get my attention and say ‘sir dito po route ng 1Ok’… My focus that time is to get in to the route kahit na late na,. and I miss to see the marks but that’s what happened, dagdag pa dun na medyo di ako magaling when it comes to maps and direction. But overall, ok yung event.. ang daming Pocari!
What is the cause of death? so sad :c
cardiac arrest
condolences to the family. :( ang hirap ng may mawawala dahil sa isang bagay ng nagpapasaya gaya ng pagtakbo…next time my fellow runners mas maging maingat na tayo , proper training up to race day para maiwasan yung ganung insidente..sobrang nakakalungkot talaga na may ganyang pangyayari..ganun na din sa mga ka grupo nya Sigue Correr Runners (SCR) ang aking pakikiramay para sa inyong miyembro
The guy collapsed almost right in front of me, it’s sad to hear that he died, bec when we were there, he was still breathing, and it took the medic more than 5 mins na naka motor to arrive, and around 8 mins before the ambulance arrived.. what i don’t understand was why was he not brought to the hosipital immediately and try to revive him along the way to the hospital sa medic van..
RIP po.. :(
Rex,
Valid points you’ve got there. I was also wondering why the guy was being resuscitated right there and then on the pavement. I thought the ambulance was still on the way or something.
Sad news to hear that a comrade has fallen. Anyway, special thanks to Sir Ernie Almero for returning my cp which I nearly lost when I placed it on the lootbag I swapped for large fin shirt n I forgot to remove it good thing Sir Ernie was an honorable man and gave it back to me.
Need talaga ng organizers to improve the support, we too saw the person being helped by fellow runners, CPR can do so much and pero aside from that need ng medical team ng organizers yung electrical paddles na standard sa lahat ng races worldwide wherein the medics are trained when to use it to restart the heart of the person, my better half saw his legs already shaking when we passed by a min or two when he collapsed, we did not stay to look kasi wala naman kami matutulong and dadagdag pa sa tao around the area, RIP,prayers for him and his family.
the organizers need to fix yung traffic sa route at yung start we were sharing the roads with the other cars, ni cones wala on most parts so pipinahan ka ng sasakyan for the 21k distance. sobrang dilim dun sa kalahati ng flyover good thing may support lights sa ibang parts.
may natisod na runner along kalayaan flyover kasi walang ilaw ..actually inalalayan namin un babae gusto man namin tumawag ng medic kaso wlang nakaposte sa flyover….
muntik n ko mabanga ng car with 3 other runners…. the driver crossed his car right in front of us…. buti timing paghinto namin… haiyz.. (suwerte nya naramble na ung plate number sa mind ko after finishing the 21k race)…
To all Runners who participated on PSE Bull Run.. The guy you collapsed along the 19th and 20th KM route is our Team President. Team Sigue Correr Runners (Team SCR). His name is Romel Defeo. Let us give respect to him. He is a good person. Let offer a prayer..
May he Rest in Peace.
rest in peace sir romel
condolences to the family

his race is over. his life had taken its course. but for those friends and love ones he left behind, he will continue to run in their minds and heart and may even pace them until all of them will one day reach the finish line and be awarded winners in life.
first time ko sumali sa PSE Bull Run, grabe sagana sa tubig at pocari sweat. 2 thumbs up! :)

Nagkaubusan lang ng tubig along Buendia flyover, nonetheless, it was still a great run.

Condolence and Prayers to the family and friends of Sir Romel.. RIP
So tragic…. Condolence!
my first 10K run and I was so very happy for the result…thanks God for the safe run…..Condolence to our fellow runner…
our sincere condolence to the whole family and Team SCR.
It is my 1st time to actually be in a same run that a runner actually died. I’m deeply saddened by what happened. For the race organizers, let us provide more bananas along the route for the safety of our runners especially those doing distance runs. To all the runners, let this be a lesson to us to take in bananas before we run. This can happen to anyone of us. Rest in peace kuya RD. I may not have known you personally but I share the passion you had for running. May His light shine upon you and give you peace.
SIr Romel, thank you for everything. The lessons you’ve taught Team Sigue Correr Runners and the moments we’ve shared will forever be in our hearts. We love you.
May your soul rest in peace. Amen.
Rest in Peace RD…….

It’s my first time to run in 21k half marathon, and my 2nd race….so medyo scary that one might also die in such a race…I am also the one saw Mr.Defeo being resusitated, i just thought that he just collapsed. Maybe his sports attire contributed to what happen kasi medyo mainit na nung time na yun and black pa yun suot niya covered to his body, so mainit talaga, hindi masyado narelease yung init ng katawan… condolence to the family of Mr.Defeo.
When we lose someone we love, it seems that time stands still. Those we love and lose are together with us in heart, forever with us in memory.
We pray that in this time of loss,
You’ll feel God’s love much more
And that you’ll find your comfort

Condolence to Sir Romel Defeo Family, Rest in peace fellow runner
God bless us all runners! Remember be safe and avoid injury!
P.S. LOVE YOU ALL RUNNERS!
death was due to hypokalemia.
if im not mistaken, the only banana station was placed on the 19th kilometer mark.
sir RD collapsed at the 17th kilometer.
oh my. kung umabot lang sana sya sa banana stations to take a couple of bananas. ;(
condolence to defeo family… may you rest in peace sir romel..
Rest in peace Sir.
So the cause of death as determined by those who tried to resuscitate him is “Cardiac Arrest due to Hypokalemia”? I wonder what the conclusion is based on. Was an autopsy conducted or post-mortem investigation? It would be useful for the running community and his family and friends to know why and how this occurred. I hope the conclusion is not based on hasty (or non-existent) investigation. This is not a knock on those who gave medical attention or anyone for that matter but there might be deeper and more complex reasons than not enough bananas or it being a mildly hot… Just sayin’,
My deepest Condolences to his Family and Friends. I’m sure he is now on the right path together with our Lord Christ. I know the feeling of how to lose a running buddy/friend :(
Deepest Condolences to the family of Sir Romel. Overall, okay ang event. I even bought another singlet kasi okay ang design. Anyways, kudos po at sana next year maging The Bull Run Marathon na kayo. =)
Why didn’t they rush him to St. Luke’s Global instead of doing CPR on the road. They could have continued in the Ambulance and brought him to a hospital where they have better equipment for such emergencies. It was a shock to what happened to him. May his soul rest in peace
@dron (comment #92)
i think what was posted was only an assumption since no medico-legal report(autopsy) was issued as of this time. Rule of thumb in this scenario is to speculate as to the cause of death is cardiorespiratory arrest secondary to MI or HCM.
condolence to our fellow runner… RIP!
maganda po itong sinabi ng doctor…
““I wish we could have done more. I hoped we could have saved him. For the race organizers, I hope from now on doctors should be on site during races and not just medics. Few minutes of intervention is critical for saving lives. I am thankful for Makati Rescue for providing AED and adequate meds. I just wish the laryngoscope was working (i’m still beating myself up for not being able to intubate on time). I wish i had a flashlight. I wish I ran faster so I could have helped him a little earlier (5mins of arrest before I got to him) For fellow runners, it’s always best to know your body and run safe. I pray for R D. I pray that this will be a reminder for all of us.”
hopefully sa mga race organizer kung pwede nga lang sa registration center eh may doctor na nagchecheck kung physically fit ang isang sasali especially sa long distance event at tama dapat in the actual event eh may doctor din…
Nakakalungkot naman itong balita. Condolence po sa family ni Sir Romel! R.I.P.
He may not be able to cross the Finish Line, at least he finally finished his own race.
To you sir,,, Rest In Peace RUNNER!
Mr Romel Defeo, i dont know you personally but when i saw u being revived and saliva was coming out of your mouth, naiyak na ako while finishing the race coz its not gonna get well and it reminded me of Remus who died in the Milo marathon 2010, Rest in Peace Mr. Defeo, i offered my sunday mass and prayers to and your family ;(
so sad one of our fellow runner died during a race…
to the family, friends of Mr Romel Defeo and to his members (SCR), condolence po
Rest in Peace..Sir Defeo.
