After running for 11 years and having road tested dozens of running shoes, I’ve discovered that my over-pronating stride is really picky with the shoes that I wear. To be honest, Nike shoes weren’t always at the top of my list, not until I discovered the Pegasus.
Around 2 years ago, I was awarded a pair of the Nike Pegasus 35 Turbo by attending one of Nike’s events. I was really skeptical at first, but once I started running with them, I immediately knew that it was a shoe I’d wear for my races.
More than the aesthetics, I fell in love with the performance of the ZoomX foam which is firm yet very responsive which allowed me to immediately feel the support and bounce it gave for every single step.
I still have the Nike Pegasus 35 Turbo until today as one of my go-to shoes. I love using it especially when I want to race 10K to 21K events, so when I was sent a pair of the new Pegasus Air Zoom 37, I was really excited – mainly about knowing that I can finally retire the old one.
The Technology
The biggest difference between the two shoes is how the midsole was built. The Pegasus 37 (Peg 37) was developed using the Air Zoom technology. It’s a Zoom Air bag designed to be located along the forefoot where runners rebound from the ground, supporting in both cushioning the landing and boosting each take-off.
According to the technical specs, the airbag in the Peg 37 is now twice as thick as the Peg 36 and now offers more energy return than its predecessor, while the remaining midsole was created with the award-winning and well-loved REACT foam.
I’ve been running with the Pegasus 37 for a week now, and I can definitely say that this technology is working for me, while wearing this shoe, I feel like I can run longer and with more power in my strides.
The Design
The Peg 37 uses a breathable upper mesh that is similar to the Pegasus 35 which I personally I prefer over that of the flyknit, because it provides my feet more support and the snug fit that I look for in running shoes. The designers also switched out the flywire cord-based lacing and replaced it with midfoot bands that do not bother me at all. It looks and feels very much like the upper of the Pegasus 35 Turbo.
For the color, I particularly like the blue but currently, the Nike Pegasus 37 is also available in Black and White. The design is simple, elegant and really stands out on its own.
The Verdict
As a running shoe, I really like running with the Pegasus 37, it’s light, bouncy and very responsive. It makes me enjoy running a little bit more. Will I replace the Peg 35 Turbo? Maybe, but I will have to try to race with them once the pandemic is over to find out.
But, if you’re looking for a new running and training shoe, then you should really consider the new Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 37. It’s priced at P6,295 – a good value for such an amazing pair of shoes.
