Adventure time,
Come on and grab your friends
We’ll go to very distant lands
With Jake the Dog, and Finn the Human
The fun will never end, Adventure Time!
It was the ‘end of an era,’ was what fans of this show, well-beloved by children and the children-at-heart were heard uttering, when news hit them of the series finale of Adventure Time. Our hearts just broke when we found out that we won’t get to watch Finn and Jake go off seeking adventures, that turn into misadventures, but eventually come out to be successful ones, anymore. How were we to cope with the dreariness of reality without all of the silly and wonderful characters in the colorful Land of Ooo? What were we to do without Princess Bubblegum, BMO, LSP and everyone else to make us laugh out loud?
Adventure Time fans will give you a lot of reasons why they love the show and when you hear these reasons, honestly, you’ll probably end up thinking it’s childish. But if you ask me, Adventure Time won hearts all over, exactly because of its childishness. Because its whimsical charm gives you—or brings you back—the joy of endless wonder, and the wisdom found in childish thought. Without even mentioning the amazing times we had watching them with special people, Adventure Time already gives you a lot to love, on its own. It made saying goodbye difficult.
“How the heck do you do your favorite cartoon justice in terms of a good bye?”
Count on Color Manila for that. I mean, who better than the organizer that brought Metro Manila runners the Marvel Run, a series of Blacklight Runs, to name a few, right? Die-hard fans like my sister and I were just thrilled about the idea, regardless if they were runners, or not. Color Manila spared nothing in terms of decking out the event grounds. There were Grab cars painted with the faces of BMO and LSP (with matching exclusive promo codes, too!) and vibrant archways that surrounded the main event grounds. The race route popping with color in a spray of powder dyes themed to match the characters of Flame Princess, Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, and Ice King. The event made you feel like you were right there in the magical Land of Ooo running on a grand adventure. Naturally, fans running at the event couldn’t help stopping for pictures.
And if all of that still wasn’t enough, Color Manila and Cartoon Network gave us a bang of an ending with the color festival. Having been given color packets, race finishers gathered at the main events grounds and in a crowd of smiles and cheers, let fall the powder dyes that made for a spectacular sight, in time to the lively music playing.
The music fades to a stop and the electric energy dies down. I look to my sister, who ran with me and tell her it’s time to take home the medals and the items that will serve as mementos to Adventure Time’s memory. Memories were capture and tacked onto digital space, as permanent as you’d want it to remain, freezing in time the stained-glass smiles.
We got the ending that did justice to all the adventures and memories shared. We get into our Grab, careful to lay down clean towels to not stain the car seats and as we settle—almost as if cued in, we silently sing;
Time is an illusion that helps things make sense
So we are always living in the present tense
It seems unforgiving when a good thing ends
But you and I will always be back then
You and I will always be back then
If you didn’t catch the last episode of Adventure Time which aired in the US last September 3, Cartoon Network Philippines will be airing a four-part episode feature this week, so stay tuned! For news on Color Manila’s next races, you can check out our website at www.pinoyfitness.com
Which cartoon do you think Color Manila should theme a run after, next? I’m voting for a Steven Universe run! What about you? Let us know in the comments!
