Gym Etiquette 101
While you paid for membership, a gym is a space that you share with several other people. Know the do’s and don’ts of going to the gym so everyone gets the most out of their workout.
1. Arrive at your class/workout session ON TIME
If your class is at 7AM, be there at least 15 minutes before. It’s a sign that you respect your instructor’s – as well as your classmates’ – time.
2. Keep your phone on Silent Mode
Nothing’s more distracting than a constantly ringing mobile phone inside the gym. If you need to make or take a call, step out for a few minutes and keep your voice down.
3. Wipe Off that Sweat
Bring a towel with you if you sweat like crazy. Wipe off mats, weights, and other equipment you’ve used as courtesy to the other members.
4. Return Gym Equipment once You’re Done
Put those free weights, medicine ball, or jump rope back where they belong.
5. Tie that Long Hair
Ladies or even Men, you don’t want your gym buds to have your hair all over their face, especially in a confined space, right? Right.
6. Patiently wait for Your Turn
If you usually use the bench press at exactly 6:30 and you find out that someone else is using it, relax. Don’t hover impatiently over anyone who’s there – mix up your routine and start with a different workout instead.
7. Make sure you Smell Fresh
For the love of things good, shower, swipe on some deo, and don’t overdo the cologne (strong cologne + sweat = not a good idea). Make sure everyone has a good time during that one-hour sesh. Don’t be unforgettable for the wrong reasons.
8. Check your workout clothes
Check for fit. No one wants a wardrobe malfunction happening!
9. Respect other People’s Personal Space
Some people go to the gym for their “Me Time”. They like to be left in peace. Say hello, keep the small talk at the bare minimum and let them do their thing. Do your thing, too. You can always start a conversation after.
