Last Sunday the J-Bay Open Surfing Competition in South Africa was cancelled after professional surfer Mick Fanning was attacked and escaped a shark attack in the final heat of the competition.

It was fortunate that Fanning was able to escape and no one got injured. Fanning later told the World Surf League TV that he was able to “punch” the shark in the back to scare it away, and good thing the safety boats was able to quickly pick him out of the water.
