THERE are now 3,400 runners registered in the Kadayawan Festival Run 2010 set on August 8, Sunday at 5 a.m. in an out-and-back course at the Roxas Avenue near the Ateneo de Davao University.

“Baka umabot kami ng 4,000 on our last day of registration this Friday,” said organizer Kenneth Sai of the Vantage Promotions.

Sai said that they have closed already the registration in the 21K race which already has a total of 130 runners.

The early favorites in the men’s open are Joselito Dugos, Elmer Bartolo and Junel Boncit, while veterans Monalisa Ambasa and Judelyn Miranda are expected to battle it out for supremacy in the distaff side.

“They are the top picks. But we can never also underestimate the other runners, who have prepared for this race,” Sai said.

The race, which is presented by Adidas Philippines and sponsored by the Motolite Battery, Hi-Smart Vitamins, C2 Drinks, JSALL Marketing and Beefit Gym and Aerobics, also has a 3K, 5K and 10K competition.

Among the groups also joining are the University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep), Davao Light and Power Company, Unifrutti and the Police Regional Training School XI.

Usep, which will soon have its own multi-purpose sports auditorium that can accommodate 8,000 people, will reportedly be sending a huge number of students.

DLPC, on the other hand, has its own running club composed of its employees. More running clubs, companies and schools are expected to join the event which has four separate divisions – the 3-kilometer, 5K, 10K and 21K.

Cash prizes, medals and certificates will be awarded.
