HOKA, the brand known for its technology-driven shoes with cushioned midsoles, allowed runners to experience twice their Mach Speed at a speed camp held last September 18 at the Philippine Sports Arena.

The speed camp was led by none other than our Olympic Pole Vaulter’s father, Coach Emerson Obiena. Coach Obiena is a seasoned athlete himself and a coach in pole vault and short distance running.

As running has become more popular and has evolved into a lifestyle, there has been a rise in community runs, fun runs, and marathons nationwide. This has motivated more runners to strive for growth and break their personal records.

To support the community, HOKA brought together members of the HOKA Running Club and some other runners to help them unlock their potential through a lecture, some drills, and a speed workout designed by Coach Obiena to improve their running form and enhance their running efficiency. During the lecture, Coach Obiena emphasized how sprint drills and proper technique can help runners boost their speed.

“Sprint drills can significantly improve a runner’s time. For many of these runners, understanding the importance of proper execution was a game-changer,” explained Coach Obiena.

The participants had the opportunity to test their speed using HOKA’s new Mach X 2 alongside seasoned athletes such as Ma. Khrizzie Ruzol, SEA Youth and UAAP gold medalist; Sean Harry Narag, National Open and Palarong Pambansa gold medalist; Francis Allen Sillar, who secured gold at the National Open U18; Mejen Sumbongan, a gold medalist in the PATAFA Weekly Relay and UAAP; and Jessamarie Libres, National Open gold medalist.

The Mach X 2, the latest iteration of HOKA’s propulsive plated daily trainer, features an extra-resilient PEBA-topped midsole and an enhanced rocker profile for a more aggressive toe-off. Its extended Pebax® plate provides added support and propulsion, making it a formidable tool for runners aiming for peak performance.

“For runners constantly looking to improve their PRs, the Mach X 2 is the perfect training partner. Whether you’re gunning for a marathon finish or simply aiming to improve your 5K time, running at Mach X 2 speed might just be the key to getting there,” says Sharon Salvacion, HOKA Brand Manager.
