HIV infection is on the rise in the Philippines, with an average of 55 new cases being diagnosed every day, according to the Department of Health (DOH). Despite advancements in treatment and care, the stigma and discrimination surrounding the disease persist. In an effort to break this stigma and raise awareness, Healthserv Los Baños Medical Center, through its Infection Prevention and Control Committee, has partnered with the UP Los Baños Gender Center to commemorate World AIDS Day with their first fun run for HIV awareness – “KAAGAPAY.”
Kaagapay, meaning “to run together,” symbolizes the support and solidarity for individuals living with HIV, ensuring they do not feel isolated in their journey. This two-day event aims to engage the local community, promoting health for all and strengthening community partnerships. The first day will feature a charity run, health-check booths, and interactive activities focused on HIV awareness. The second day will consist of a series of lectures on HIV awareness.
