Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the exhilarating ASICS META : Time : Trials Malaysia Edition in Cyberjaya. This event, which is quickly becoming a cornerstone in the running community, drew a massive crowd of 3,000 enthusiastic runners.
This year’s race, echoing the success of last year’s Southeast Asian edition in Bangkok, was not just a test of speed and endurance but a true celebration of the runner’s spirit. The Women’s Invitational Category was particularly thrilling, with Filipina athlete Joida Gagnao, representing ASICS Philippines, securing a remarkable second place with a time of 39:18 minutes. Her performance was a source of pride for us all.
As part of a dynamic group including Andrei Felix, Migs Bustos, Kathleen Paton and myself, alongside ASICS Running Club coaches Precious Que and Jasper Tanhueco, we felt a deep sense of camaraderie and pride. It was a unique experience running alongside some of Southeast Asia’s fastest runners, and the energy was palpable.
The event also showcased the latest in running technology with the METASPEED™ EDGE+ and METASPEED™ SKY+ shoes. These shoes are game-changers, offering distinct advantages for different running styles. I was particularly impressed by the precision and thought that went into designing these shoes, underscoring ASICS’ commitment to innovation.
A highlight for many was the sneak peek of the new NOVABLAST™ 4 shoe. Set to launch in December 2023, this shoe, with its bouncy, springy feel, is already creating buzz among runners. The chance to try these shoes on-site was a treat, and the hands-on experience provided by ASICS personnel was exceptional.
The culmination of the event was rewarding, with winners receiving cash prizes, top-notch ASICS gear, Garmin products, and Oakley eyewear. For me, the real reward was in the experience – the thrill of the race, the joy of community, and the unifying spirit of achievement.
ASICS META : Time : Trials Malaysia is more than just a race; it’s a testament to the brand’s innovation and dedication to the running community. It was an honor to be part of such an inspiring event, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to ASICS Philippines for this unforgettable experience.
