The Cebu Marathon is held in Cebu City, the country’s oldest city and the first capital of the Philippines. Cebu City is often regarded as the birthplace of Christianity in Asia.
The 2020 Cebu Marathon promises to be one of the most festive road-running races in the Philippines. Held every second Sunday of January, it coincides with the Sinulog — the country’s grandest mardi gras. The Sinulog is an annual religious and cultural festivity honoring the Sto. Niño in Cebu. Streets are lined with banners and there is plenty of music and dancing.
The Cebu Marathon is filled with this spirit of celebration. The route is littered with hydration stations where runners are greeted with drum-beaters and dancers. The mood is invigorating and entertaining.
Now on its 12th year, the Cebu Marathon attracts thousands of runners joining the 42K, 21K and 5K distances. The race starts and ends at the Cebu Business Park and passes through several of the city’s iconic areas, including the Provincial Capitol Building and Fuente Osmeña.
