I’m Kathy and I’m fat, Thank You.

Who am I?

Hi I’m Kathy and I’m fat, thank you. That’s how complacency and resignation to obesity/being chubby sounds like. I’m a BIG FOODIE with a sweet tooth working at a telco (you know how that can be) who’s quite happy with how she looks so long as she gets to eat what she wants. I would have bouts of workout addiction and strict diets that will make me lose weight and look fit for about 3 months before I whirlwind back to my old ways. With that, I mean a daily dose of sweets and making excuses like work to ditch working out. I’ve actually signed up for yoga membership/workout passes just to end up almost never showing up to classes.

Working a 9-to-6…10 job, sitting down in meetings for most of the day, munching on sweets when stressed out…

Working a 9-to-6…10 job, sitting down in meetings for most of the day, munching on sweets when stressed out… I believed this was okay because I was healthy (let me get back to you on this one), not entirely sedentary (or so I thought), and still felt like I looked good despite my size (confidently beautiful with a heart). Even the fittest of my friends didn’t know how to push me hard enough to lose the weight. Not even becoming the benchmark for being fat and the primary target for fat jokes among my friends fazed me. (I’m not sure it’s something I should be proud of.) I’m sure anyone who has been overweight, chubby, or fat can relate to this. How did/do you feel about it? How did/do you handle it? What did/would you do about it? Read on and find out what I’m planning to do about my case.

Why?

Most people start a new year making resolutions and setting goals whether it be weight-loss, savings, career, etc. I started the year with a very strong passion about meeting my goal of being able to travel to 30 countries by the time I turn 30 which is 8 months from now, by the way. Then right there, BOOM. It just hit me that I’m turning friggin’ 30! That realization plus the help of a friend who’s been trying to encourage me to lead a healthier lifestyle finally managed to convince me to step out of my comfort zone and do something about it.

I want to enter my 30’s as a better version of myself, with health and fitness being very crucial aspects of it. Nothing can drive change in someone unless the person himself is geared with a strong sense of purpose. Other people can influence you, but real change must be rooted within yourself. Finding that why, that purpose, is what’s gonna get you going Is there something you want to change about yourself? What is it and why? (Cue in Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror”).

The goal is to lose 19 pounds or more within the next 6 months.

The Target.

The goal is to lose 19 pounds or more within the next 6 months. In the process, I aim to be be fitter, stronger, and better prepared for my upcoming BIG birthday trip. This means that I should drop to 130lbs (from my current 149lbs). Hopefully by then, working out would be programmed in my system that I crave it the same way I crave for my precious sweets. And maybe, all the healthy food-picking/prepping I’m gonna teach myself to do will help all this sustainable. Allowing me to enjoy the little perks of life and be the foodie that I am without neglecting my health. It’s a win-win-win situation.

With the help of Pinoy Fitness and Evolve Yoga, I am embarking on a 6-month journey to transform myself.

The Method.

With the help of Pinoy Fitness and Evolve Yoga, I am embarking on a 6-month journey to transform myself. With this challenge, I am hoping to change my way of thinking, my lifestyle, and most importantly, the size of my waistline. The challenge is stretched over 6 months to ingrain the lifestyle into my system. I am not in it for the immediate short-term result but for the long term effect that will hopefully make these changes part of who I am. I want to take it slowly but surely and sustainable this time around.

Evolve Yoga also has a SINGLE, AND LOVING IT Promo this February
– bring a single friend and you both may drop in for P380 each
– open to all (new and current package holders)
– must be used within 3 months from purchase

I can, and so I will. As of this writing, I’ve restarted my yoga practice by joining Evolve Yoga’s 30-day challenge to kickstart my own personal weight-loss journey. They are running a 30-day Challenge which is very timely for my personal challenge. One of the goals of the 30-day challenge is to improve on a posture you want to work on. In my case, it’s my overall yoga practice that I’ve lost touch of over the last 2 years of on-again-off-again practice. There will be a photo shoot at the end of the challenge featuring the participants in their target postures to showcase their progress. Bongga!

This would definitely help keep me on track and relate with the community to keep me engaged as I am starting out again – which is always the hardest part. It also helps that the studio (located at One Parkade) is so close to my office and the schedule of their evening classes work perfectly for people like me who get out of work at around 6PM. I get to attend 6:30PM and/or 8PM classes. Plus they have a pretty good introductory rate of P1,000 for 14 consecutive days of unlimited classes which is quite sulit, if you really plan to make the most of the membership – like me!

I’m declaring my personal challenge here for the world to know that I am doing this

So why am I putting this out here? I’m declaring my personal challenge here for the world to know that I am doing this, and you can do it too! Maybe we can motivate each other to keep ourselves on track. Change is always a difficult endeavor to take on, but with the right motivation and support, it’s quite possible.

To supplement my yoga practice, I’ve started slowly reducing my sugar consumption limiting it to my coffee which has also been reduced as well. (Dear friends, if you are reading this, please know that I am working on this project at the moment, so please please please PELASE help me by stopping me from grabbing sweets and not tempting me!) Also, I’m gonna make sure I meat (LOL) meet my very-realistic-and-achievable-yet-rarely-met-except-when-traveling Fitbit goals of: climbing 10 floors and 10,000 steps, burning 2,300 calories, and at least 30 active minutes per day. I’ll also be working on infusing some cardio into my routine, maybe swimming or cycling, and eventually running (maybe join a Pinoy Fitness race even) once I lose some of the weight (coz my weight is too much for my knees at the moment). Sounds like a plan? You, yes you reading this, want to join me in this challenge? Got a plan yet? Mahirap? Aba, siyempre, pero kaya ‘yan! Let’s do this together!

There goes my story and how I’m challenging myself to meet my 130x30x30 goal to become the “I’m fit, thank you” version of myself. Push? Push! Follow me on instagram @kadieco to see how I’m doing, keep me on track, and maybe give me an extra push when needed. Tiwala lang, friends.
