Ban Marathon change

Rashmarie Macarambon from the Philippines recently created a petition in Change.Org, an international platform for change to Ban Marathons to help our economy and mother nature.

Ms. Macarambon’s reasons are:
1. Marathon events cause traffic that is the main reason why workers arrive late for work and eventually get fired.
2. Traffic also delays food that needs to be delivered to the public market causing the loss of business.
3. Traffic causes more pollution.
4. Cups thrown during the events are thrown along the streets that eventually is the source of flooding.

  1. un pagtatapon ng cups n sinasabi mo malamang alam ng organizers yan..at nagaassign cla ng maglilinis nyan after the race.. gamit, gamit dn ng utak minsan mam.. wag mu idamay ang simpleng pagtakbo s sinasabi mong khirapan..kung nagsisipag yang mga tao n yan d cla mgugutom..

  2. The 4th item was reasonable thowing cups along road during the run.. though it is usually collected after the race. May basurahan naman.. bkit sa kalsada pa..

  5. its a knee jerk commentary that isnt fully founded. runs should continue for the good of many, but organizers and participants alike need to make sure that surroundings are kept safe and clean, etc. joint effort for best results. that’s it.

  8. I haven’t run in awhile pero heto yung sagot ko sa mga concerns ni Ms. Macarambon:
    1. Marathon events causes traffic that is the main reason why workers arrive late for work and eventually get fired.
–> Marathons are usually on Sundays, aren’t they? And the fact that they are announced MONTHS ahead of time, I would think people would have enough sense to make adjustments to their commute in order to get to work that day.
    2. Traffic also delays food that needs to be delivered to the public market causing the loss of business.
–>It’s traffic everywhere, especially during rainy season and other reasons. Marathons are only held for how long and in what hours of the day? Duh.
    3. Traffic causes more pollution.
–> Indeed, but not only during marathons. *shaking my head on this one*
    4. Cups thrown during the events are thrown along the streets that eventually is the source of flooding.
–> WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? With or without the marathons, trash and other things thrown by other people (non-runners) during non-marathon events cause flooding already.
    *facepalm*

  9. i know sir, alam ko ang tama noh haha, pero naiintindihan ko yun situation ng hndi nkkpagtapon ng basura sa tamaang lagayan. :)

  10. nakakatawa naman to. FYI, races are on weekends mostly Sundays. these days are not like weekdays if she regards about the traffic (my insights for numbers 1-3). then for the cups, some runners do throw at the road but they were collected afterwards (for number 4). then what I can’t understand is the relation to the fall of economy (tsk tsk tsk). all running events are scheduled ahead of time and the organizers are doing their best to not cause any of those written by the you, Rashmarie Macarambon. (SMH)

Itakbo m nlng yng Hinaing mo! :))))

  12. for me aman po, di lang naman running events ang nakakasira sa ating ka kakilakasan or di kayay nagiging dahilan ng matinding trapik sa kamaynilaan, wala man eto or nahinto man, tingin ba natin magiging gaganda or uunlad na ang ating EKONOMIYA SA BANSA?
as a runner, hindi po masama kng may mga event na gaya ng ganito, pero xempre we should also be responsible :)

Susme, anlabo niyo.

  14. She should run a marathon before judging. Haha

  15. Problema ng ekonomiya sinisi sa marathon! Pati baha at traffic! Isama na kaya nya pati south china sea issue! Wala yatang magawa sa buhay kaya pati marathon sinisi!

  16. Discipline is a big factor for runners. I believe it applies to all. U could stop.for a while to drink or u could hold the cup until the next hydration area para itapon sa basurahan dunU0001f60cU0001f60cU0001f60c

  17. I guess this is just what exactly she wants, to be talked ’bout & gain fame overnight. Well, she may have succeeded in getting every runner’s attention but not with what she’s petitioning for. Never.

  18. post k pah d2 ndi m alm my advocacy ang marathon n my natutulungan din cla..kw ano naitutulong m s bayan wla nga nga k lng inicp m lng un sarili m n mgwork k at mpgyaman.. selfish kah…kw ang ngbibigay ng polution d2 dhl s sasakyan moh try m mglakad hanggang  work m pra wla polution

  19. maybe it happen to her… hehehe.. he got fired because she not good enough employee the company can do without her… she has not tried running… obviously clean up is part of the post marathon… she doesnt know that marathons are on weekends… she doesnt know that are being hired to earn some.. she did not know that some people make money on the cups and foams scattered on the road.

She should try running… and see what she thinks after… unless she is too big to run.

  20. How about creating a petition to make this woman run a full marathon and have her hold a plastic cup of water, and See if she will still have it on her hands.

  21. I’ve run the NY, Chicago, Honolulu, San Francisco, Tokyo Marathons and a few more international half-marathons. Used water cups ALWAYS end up on the streets. Yes, even in Tokyo. In fact in NY and Chicago, they also throw away their old jackets at the starting line. The organizers just clean up the litter afterwards like they do here. By the way, these cities conduct these annual events because the marathon actually contributes to the local economy.

  22. sya yung scalper ng RU na nabully sa mga fb running group… nalugi siguro at wala na mabenta kaya bitter… btw, most likely na troll account yan… me client sya na nagsabi na lalaki sya talaga…

  23. a lot of lives we’re changed because of marathons and funruns, friendships made, bad habits stopped, and for gods sake i even saw a freakin proposal at one point. I really do sympathize with her for maybe losing her job or being scolded at work due to her tardiness, but c’mon I already witnessed students cross rivers without bridges while waking up extremely early just not to be called late at school. her petition is just a way of whining to conjure up an excuse for her irresponsible perosona
