      kc d mo na kelangang problemahin ang mga “walker” kung talagang elite runner ka.

      Kung mabilis kc ang isang runner malamang ang kasabayan ay mabibilis din.

      Panget naman kc i-build up mo image mo and in the process hamakin mo ang mga “walkers” na nagbayad din naman ng reg. fee.

      Take note, hindi ginawa ang mga event na to exclusively para lang sa mga taong insecure. :)

      Malaki na ang community ng mga runners at sa isang community dapat nagtutulungang hindi dina down ang isa’t isa.

    • I agree with you shield. 21K and above is not Fun Run. Okay lang naman mag walk for a short break like 2-3 minutes. Para sa akin yung dapat sumali sa 21K e yung kaya nang tumakbo ng tuloy tuloy for 10K. Di naman kelangan mabilis, you can run slow but not walk. Dapat ganun ang mentality ng runner. Isipin mo yung kakayanan mo bago ka sumali sa longer distance. If you are just aiming for fun, you can join 3k,5k and 10K…Sorry pero yan ang opinyon ko.

  2. I just sending a message. Train or go home. If you registered for the 21 32 42 50 80 100 kilometres have a sense of pride in finishing strong. Bilib pako sa mga runners na binebenta nila bib nila kasi wala sila training. Kasi alam nila preparation is key. Hindi ung mga style nyo na BAHALA NA SI IRONMAN. At lit si batman ngpeprepare.

    • hahaha kakatuwa si shield ngayon pati mga ultramarathoners na naglalakad dinadamay na… mga ultramarathoners na naglalakad ng mahaba mga walkers pala kayo eh.. magtraining daw kayo.. kung di nyo kaya na kaunti lakad wag na kayo tumakbo sa ultra..anu ba para saiyo shield ang cutoff ng 21k 2hrs? 32k 3hrs? 42k 4,5hrs? 50k 6hrs?

  3. Kung runner ka na nagrereklamo sa mga walkers, ibig sabihin nasa bandang likod ka na ng pila before gun start. Kung alam mong runner ka, dun ka sa harap para walang reklamo dahil wala kang masasalubong na walkers sa daan. Ano ba sa tingin mo ang dahilan bakit nakakasalubong mo ang mga walkers?

    Kung sa tingin mo mabilis ka at nag iisip, pipila ka sa bandang harap kasama ang mga elite unless of course mayabang ka lang sa mga taong mas mabagal pa sayo. May mga taong binubuhos sa ibang tao ang frustrations nila dahil wala silang ibang naaachieve sa buhay.

    Wala pa akong naririnig at nakikitang “totoong” elite runner talaga na nagyabang kahit minsan or nang alipusta ng ibang runners na mas mabagal pa sa kanila. Ang bilis mo ngang tumakbo, ang bagal mo naman sa pagpila before gun start, wala din. Minsan dapat din mag isip at hindi magsalita.

    Isa ako sa mga taong tinatawag nilang runners o yung mga hindi masyadong naglalakad sa mga Runs pero never akong nang alipusta ng mga taong mas mabagal pa sa akin. Madaming paraan para umiwas sa mga nakaharang sa daan, maging mga naglalakad man yan, nag seselfie, or mga magkakabarkadang sabay sabay tumatakbo sa isang linya. Kaya tao may paa, para dalhin tayo sa pupuntahan natin. Kaya tayo may kamay, para maging kaaagapay ng mga taong nagsisimula palang sa pagtakbo at pagbago ng kanilang buhay. Kaya tayo may utak at mata, para alam natin na may iiwasan tayo malayo pa lang. Kaya tayo may puso, para intindihin ang mga taong nasa paligid natin.

    Isa ako sa mga taong tinatawag nilang runners o yung mga hindi masyadong naglalakad sa mga Runs pero kailanman wala akong pakialam sa PR or sa finish time ko. I have already reached the maturity ng aking pagtakbo, beterano na ako kung tatawagin. Sa tingin ko ay malayo na ang aking naabot sa pagtakbo at mga narating ko sa buhay para ipagmayabang ko pa ang PR ko na alam kong wala namang pakialam ang tao unless ikaw mismo ang nakapag podium finish. Walang pakialam ang tao kung gaano ka kabilis tumakbo, ang mahalaga ay natapos mo.

    Lahat tayo nagbabayad, lahat tayo gustong maabot ang distansyang gusto nating maabot pero minsan, hindi lang dapat puro katawan ang gamitin, gamitin din ang UTAK at PUSO. Makalipas ang ilang taon, wala namang taong magtatanong sayo kung gaano mo kabilis natapos ang isang patakbo, wala silang pakialam kung saan ka tumakbo. Babagal ka rin, tatanda, at hihina.

    Yun lang. Wala na akong masabi pa.

    Mabuhay ang mga Runners, Walkers, and Selfiers alike. :-)

      Di naman kelangan maging elite para magreklamo. Hindi ako elite pero I agree with Shield. I am slow runner but not walker. Sa ultra lang uso ang lakad. :)

      • ang point lang naman dun is we don’t have the power to change other people… kahit naman sabihan natin ang mga non competitive na wag maglakad or magtrain, they will still do it on their own will.. pero bakit kelangang idiscriminate sila diba?bakit kelangan labelan ng kung ano2 na parang ang baba naman ng tingin sa kanila kesyo naglalakad sila…. kasi sa pagkakaalam ko sa pagiging atleta nadedevelop ang sportsmanship and respect sa mga co-delegates and other athletes…. it’s just so ironic na you are all saying na respect the distance pero hindi nyo marespeto ang ibang tao… hindi lang nman pagtakbo ang gnagawa natin sa buhay… tska yung sinasabi mo na hindi required maging elite para magreklamo ibabalik ko sayo ang sagot mo…hindi rin required na maging competitive para sumubok at sumali sa mga running events… i respect your opinions i just don’t like how you underdog those you so called “walkers” and jnjudge nyo agad na they are running just for the sake of fb purposes…wag sanang igeneralize

        ohhhhh….by the way… sa mga complains nyo kasi with walkers kayo ang mas lumalabas na bitter so for the better runner part…since hindi nga natin control yung decisions and will ng ibang tao bakit hindi na nga lang naten iimprove ang mga sarili natin? train harder… para hindi tayo maabala ng mga “walkers”, wake up early para makapwesto ng maganda sa harapan.. learn how to overtake… hindi naman porke me walker sa harapan mo ehh dun ka na lang sa likod nila…diskartehan…. kasi nagtataka lang tlga ako bakit ang lalaki ng galit sa walker? dahil hindi kayo makatakbo ng ayos? so before telling anyone else to train harder bakit hindi nten simulan sa mga sarili naten? cheers for running!:)

      • of course i know what i’m saying and bakit kelangan pa nating magconsult kay rio? ang mga events ngayon ay may bahid ng negosyo… kaya ni rio controlin ang dami ng participants or even set cut offs para yung mga talagang qualified lang ang makasali… pero hindi…kasi tinatangkilik ng karamihan kahit mahal…

        naiintindihan ko ang pnpoint out nyo…na kelangan magtraining na hindi bara bara ang half or even full marathon… pero bakit kelangang mang discriminate ng mga naglalakad? bakit mo sila pangungunahan kung gusto nilang sumali? ikaw ata ang hindi nakakaintindi sa point namin… kasi kung ang mga organizers nga hndi nila ginagawan ng paraan kahit sila ang me kakayanan… ikaw? do you think bashing and criticizing the walkers like what your doing will help? wala naman problemang mag bigay ng tips with newbies… nauuna kasi yung angas nyo.. hindi na din kasi yung being a walker nagiging issue…sa sobrang passion nyo kasi with running puro distance na lang ang alam nyo irespeto…hindi na kayo marunong rumespeto ng ibang tao….

      • hindi ako walker…i can finish a 21km, 42km, ultra with a decent time… me times na naaabala din ako ng walker ng lower category sa mga turning points pero hindi nman dahilan yon para bargasin ko sila… overtake..tapos..

        pero the way you label those walkers and the way you talk about them… parang hindi kayo nanggaling sa paglalakad… and naglakad lang yung tao jnudge mo na agad? wag nyo na lang igeneralize… siguro yung mga nakikita nyo na nagppicture pa or holding hands while walking pa na mag jowa pwede pa masilip…

        mag pakatotoo nga kayo.. oo hindi ganun kabibilis hindi rin ganun kagagaling. pero kami sumasali kami sa alam namin na tama lang sa kakayanan namin hindi kami si ironman…

  5. Karamihan ng mga against sakin balak pumasok sa politics. Nakapeprepare na mga speech. Haba ng sinabi un din ang punto. Hay naku. Para sa inyo, sige, isa din na akong Walker. Opo walker na ko. Nagconvert nako. Paghahandaan kona po ang 32k ng naglalakad. Tsk.

Instead of hiding on an alias para matigil na ang usapin about you. Ako kilala kita and you were not on the top 10 nor top 20 sa Sub 10k kahit nga top 50.   11. Guys, Bakit nyo pinapatulan yung batang isip at egoistic (The Shield).

    For Shield (just a suggestion), KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT. You are not encouraging and motivating beginners to be a runner. Isipin mo nag umpisa ka din as a WALKER. All running events are for fun, this is not a competitive event.

    Be positive, walk tall, smile often, don’t complain or procrastinate. Remember – Sports is a game and meant to be enjoyable

  12. Message to THE SHIELD: Ang lata pag walang laman ay maingay… at IKAW IYON! Kung wala kang masasabi na maganda to motivate those walkers or slow runners.. just keep your mouth shut! Why don’t you join the ULTRAMARATHONERS who run 80KM, 100kM, 160km & above… outside Manila… I can give to you the conntact details of Jonel Mendoza, Adrian Aquino at iba pa.. pero itong mga tao na eto ay never na nag-alipusta sa mga slow runners or walkers… never na nagyabang sila sa mga kakayahan nila. I will endorse you to these people and i am willing to pay your registration in all events but in one condition – YOU HAVE TO PROVE YOUR WORTH AS AN ULTRAMARATHONEER!! But of course we need your real identify..no falsification of document otherwise you will go to jail… I AM SERIOUS … I WILL PAY YOUR REGISTRATION FEES as long as you can beat these ultramarathoneers..

    • I guess hindi alam ni the shield yung phrase na “on your left” average runner lang yan averaging 6 min/km kaya inaabutan ng mga walkers.

    I wish that there will be no race in Manila Bay on this date so I can go back to running! And hopefully, registration will be back to the old one wherein you will be able to get your singlet and bib on the same date… hassle free!

  18. Sige kayo na. Kayo na magagaling. Kayo na magaling sa takbuhan. My advocacy is to give importance to training. From 5k to 21k agad agad, you call that Training? What if may mangyari sa runner na sa kagustuhang magkamedalya eh kahit wala siya training sabak agad sa 21k? Diba kawawa naman? Hindi ba ang advocacy ng ngayong Run United is Faster, Stronger, Higher? Kaya nga meron sila 21, 32, 42 para mabigyan ng chance ang runner na makapagtrain. Hindi ung susubukan lang. Hindi ung bahala na.

    • Masyado nang mainit ang usapan dito. Basta ang masasabi ko lang trained well para hindi ka maglakad sa actual race. :) Try niyo mag attend ng mga running clinics. maraming libre. sa bgc, sa ayala, at marami pang iba. sinasabi ko talaga sa inyo lalakas kayo at mapapagod na kayo pagnaglakad kayo. :)

        You need to train talaga that’s the reality. Di pwede yung nakikiuso lang.

  22. It is plain and simple. Those who haven’t sin among you, let him be the first to cast a stone. Life is full of surprises and the SHIELD is one of them. Let him cover his own tracks. Why bother asking of his PR? To compare yours and shout it loud how slow he is. You’re no different then. Keep reading on his comments and maybe, just maybe one day, he then realize that no matter how slow or fast a “walker”. It is the step that counts.

  23. I don’t care about the shield or to whatsoever. I care about sa registration ngayon sa RU2 sana po lahat ng nakatakbo ng 21k sa RU1 may priority date ng registration :) at sana wala na pong bultuhan yung registration, sigruo gawin 2 yung maximum per registrant.

      2. Walang bultuhan, max of 2 entries per registrant.

    • talaga naming bibigyan ng priority registration ang mga tumakbo ng RU1 mga 1 or 2 weeks just like last year, problema ng lang kung scalper o nabili bib sa RU1 hindi mo alam name.

I have no problem with those who walk during fun runs, nakaka inspire din na nakaka overtake ako… kung puro strong runners baka nasa dulo lagi ako… there is always a positive in everything that happens, kailangan lang respeto sa isat-isa at no “NAME CALLING”… nobody’s perfect… and please put a stop on negative comments, di na tayo naka inspire sa mga bagong runners…. the more the merrier… peace everybody…

  25. Respect the distance. Kahit ano pang distance yan, mapa 3, 5, 10, 16, 21, 32, 42, at pataas. Hindi dapat laging suntok sa buwan ang pagtakbo lalo na pag hindi prepared. Lahat ng distansya dapat pinagpapraktisan kahit newbie yan, saktong runner lang, o elite. Okay lang maglakad, pero mas maganda kung hindi kasi ibig sabihin non nag ensayo ka ng mabuti at alam mong tamang tama ang ginawa mong ensayo para sa distansyang yon. Mahirap sumabak sa alam mong onti lang ang ensayo mo, alam niyo ang kakalabasan? Injury po yan, sankatutak na cramps. Based on experience po yan. Para kang gumera sa isang laban ng walang baril. Yun lang po.

      • Actually, oo ginoogle ko ‘yan at nasa etiquette talaga ang “keep right if you’re going slow to give way to faster runners”. Ganun naman talaga dapat, hindi ‘yun isyu ng yabangan o ano.

    • wow ako sayo brad pag na continuous mo ng tumatakbo ng walang lakarang ang BDM102 and 160 pati na rin ang 200k and 250k, talunin mo muna ang mga power walkers sa ultra bago ka sumatsat, pang short distance ka lang kasi ata.

  32. I really don’t care about walkers. They actually strengthen your ankles…kaka zigzag. Hehe we all started from 0 so ok lang yan.
    My concern is the registration procedure…I hope they can accommodate evryone and sana bawal na yun madami ang register ng is ang person. Hanggang 10 max lang Siguro per person.

  33. Walkers/Runners, wala naman tayong magiging problema if we observe proper running etiquette during events. As long as we maintain respect towards each other on and off the road, the running community will be very healthy.

    Friendly Tip: Once may nakita tayong negative comments, wag na nating patulan. And instead na mag-criticize tayo ng kapwa natin, why not give advices na lang. Sayang yung thread. Pwede natin ‘tong gawing meaningful and helpful. :)

    I think this should apply to all aspects of life.

    try to finish it 4-4.5 hours. ang importante dyan, proper training, running etiquette and the realization that this is your race, no one else.

  40. i do the Galloway run/walk method… what Shield said doesn’t bother me at all… what he is just emphasizing is that we train and prepare early for this race … maybe we can just mind what he said and not how he said it… i don’t see myself being in the top 3,000 out of 10,000 runners… what matters is that i keep a comfortable pace, finish strong and avoid any injury so that I can stay motivated and join more races until I’m 80 years old,..

  41. Ang hirap sundan ng buong thread kasi mahaba na so my response will be purely based on what I read from the comments sa bandang taas… I’m not sure ano pinagmulan ng reklamo about “walkers”. If you love running and you understand the whole idea behind it, you will never put people down because they are walking during a race. Some years back, ang dami nating sinasabi about how people should learn to live healthier lives and try running as a way to become healthier; now that we see more people on the streets having the courage to sign up for a 21k, we suddenly complain kasi mabagal sila? The fact that they signed up for a 21k is actually a commendable act; it implies that they want to overcome the distance. Sure, the world would be a much better place if everyone runs fast but that’s not the case. Instead of hoping that everyone runs fast, or that everyone who signs up for a race trains enough to be fast, let’s just be happy that people have the courage to conquer distance whether it’s through running, walking, or crawling. Love running at its deepest and purest form and you will be happy for everyone who showed up on the finish line, not bitter that they blocked you from getting a PR. Besides, if you truly want to PR, you’ll have more sense to line up at the front and be more creative when you encounter the crowd on your way back. Tsaka makinig din; if you are really fast, you will appreciate how the walkers are actually cheering you when you run back. That’s one of the best feelings you’ll ever feel in a race.

    • I love your comment. I think people just need to be more optimistic. I personally get irritated when there are walkers in a 21k race at the same time, they taught me something. COURAGE and DETERMINATION. I am inspired by those who are walking during the race at least, they don’t ride jeepneys, cabs or cars. They try their best to make sure they finish the race. Running a half marathon or a full marathon is challenging both physically and mentally. But, these walkers that everyone has been referring to are strong enough from the inside to overcome the distance. I have been running for a few years now and have been training with a personal coach just so I get better but I am still afraid of running a full marathon. I admire those runners whom others call walkers who really have the courage to finish a full marathon. I think that no matter what your intentions are in joining a race respect each and everyone because, we don’t know what their stories are. Just do your thing and don’t mess up.

  43. Whats more disappointing is Run United became a sorry excuse for people who wants to brag that they have something even if they didnt do any training at all. So sad.

    • The Shield. If you have been training for marathons. I think you need to set an example. Yes, I agree with you. People just register just for the heck of getting the medal without preparation then, they end up getting injuries. Well, I have been training for a few years now and maybe I am just lucky to be training with a very good coach. At the same time, we may get upset about those who don’t seem to understand what is running really all about. However, we need to just probably educate them and just let them do their thing. As long as they don’t put you on a bat situation I think that there is no big problem really. Just leave them alone. It’s not good for an athlete to mind the negativity during the race because, it will just ruin your race and your finish time. Keep it cool The Shield.

    As im about to go home i saw these runners (walkers as per SHIELD) struggling, yes they were walking but i admire there determination.. I appreciate there effort..
    I saw my self when i was still starting in this sport. Much respect to those begginers who are dying just to get to the finish line. Yes, you can say its becoz they lack training.. Just give them time. Marerealizee din nila na they need proper training. If in case hnd so let it be sila nmn ung nahihirapan at sila nmn ung inaabut ng init ng araw ehh.at sa totoo lang medyo nkakahiya din. If you want to help them please say it in a professional way.
    Hnd mo sila anak para pagalitan..
    Nasasaktan ako sa mga nangmamaliit sa kanila kase dun din ako galing.

    btw, nothing you could say and do can change the fact na not all people are created the same, eh sa malakas ka tumakbo at yung iba hindi eh. . and how can you say na hindi nagprepare yung mga tumatakbo sa 21 32 42 and so on? si madam auring ka ba? not all people have the luxury of time for a proper training, not all people have a strong body to train as hard as you do. . tumatakbo sila/tayo dahil we all love running, d ba meron mga disabled/blind runners, d ba may mga obese(excuse me) runners, d ba may mga matatanda na runners? mabagal man o mabilis they join these events dahil they/we all love running. . sino bang tanga ang sasali ng hindi naman nila gusto ang pagtakbo at alam nila na mapapagod at masasaktan lang sila, edi matulog na lng sila, running these distances is no joke. respect these slow runnners respect the walkers. . dahil hindi man sila kasing galing at kasing bilis nyo at least they have accomplish something for themselves. . remember they are challenging/competing against themselves not you.

Tapos pag malapit na sa finish line tatakbo ulit para di naman nakakahiya. Hahaha. Tapos magpopost sa fb na Kesyo nahirapan daw sila…

    • I agree with this, I am not against walkers but having a cut off time will help everyone to be better. Extra motivation aside from the fact that you are losing calories and getting more fit but beating your previous best nothing is better than that.

  47. Just a suggestion para pag tumakbo ng longer distance eh you will not suffer but feel stronger at the finish line….Try to target following time/per distance bago umakyat ng distansya..
    5k-sub25-30minutes
    10k-sub 1-1:05
    15k- sub1:30 to 1:40
    21k-sub 2hr-2;10
    32k sub 3hr-3;20
    you are then fully ready and could even be sub 4 in full marathon..

    opinyon ko lang po ang isinulat ko sa itaas base sa aking experience.

    pag sinunod mu ang above target times bago umakyat ng distansya siguradong ang lakad mo lang eh pag dampot ng tubig sa hydration station..

    kung talagang inabot ka ng bonk, or nanghina ka along the way, just remember na keep right pag naglakad or pag bumagal ng takbo para di ka makaabala sa mga tumatakbo..

    Ang nakikita kong balitaktakan sa taas eh mukhang nalilihis. Ang pagtakbo eh hindi naman dapat walkers against runners. lahat tayo masaya sa pagtakbo or paglakad kaya nga tayo nag join ng mga fun runs..kailang lang nating sundin ang mga etiketa sa pagtakbo para lahat masaya..

    • Sir thank you for your understanding. Actually ang pinupunto ko dito is Running Etiquttes, which these people who love posting here don’t understand. Naghahang ang mga memory kasi nila. Simple lang naman eh. Fast Runners on the left. Slow walk…I mean runners on the right. Bakit zigzag pa takbo mo? Hindi ka naman lasing para gawin un. Wala lang kasing disiplina. Anu ba yan. Mga motorista walang disiplina pati ba naman sa takbo wala din? Single file po pagtakbo, hindi magkakasabay lahat, na nakaharang na sa dadaanan. Marami na kong naencounter na ganito, sarap na nga sagasaan eh. Kahit sabihan mo ng “Excuse Me”, or ” On your Left”, balewala. Galit pa.

  48. The real problem is yun mga runners that enter categories na di pa sila handa. Kumuha lang ng mga freebies and di naman tatakbo. Maka pag selfie lang at maka pag post ng medal sa Instagram o fb. Evrey category is limited and of course because of these slackers di na sila am accomodate.

    Cut off times will prevent this… Pag di pasok sa cutoff time wag big yan ng medal at finishers shirt to control the registrants at mag dalawang isip sila.
    This will also force us to train hard to get that medal…
    Yun di maka pasok sa cutoff bigyan na lang ng certificate… o kaya kamayan na lang. Hahaha

  49. I have to agree with The Shield on the runners/walkers thing.

    I remember last year, niyaya ako ng friend ko na sumali ng RU3 with him for the 21k category. He even offered to pay for my registration fee. But I passed up the offer knowing that the farthest I’ve ever ran in an event back then was 5k. Sure, I can walk and then get the medal but there’s no dignity in that if I walked half the race.

    And so I trained hard and built mileage, and finally got to ran my finished my ever 21k in December, 2 months after RU3. Yes, I waited two months. I ran a 10k then a 16k and made it a point to run three times a week. I’m not a fast runner, and I do take walk breaks (and stay on the right side) when needed (I have asthma). But I train consistently and push myself to minimize my walk breaks and break my PR. Because 21k races and longer distances are not a joke. They’re not fun runs (even though I generally have fun when I’m running). So the point is, you should take long distances seriously and train properly. Wag yung sasali ka lang just to get the medal. Sige, fine, nakuha mo nga yung medal but where’s the pride in that if you walked most of the race? Diba?

    So yun lang. If you’re gonna join a 21k, 32k run, or higher, train, train, train. Respect the distance.

Eto hirap sa mga taong sarado ang pagiisip sa opinyon ng iba. Sarili lang nila ang pinakikinggan nila. ituloy nyo lang yan. tapos pagdating ng takbo, mainjured kayo. tapos sisihin nyo organizer kasi wala kayo medalya at shirt, tapos marereklamo kayo dito sa thread na binayaran nyo naman yung registration, bakit ayaw ibigay ng organizer Etc,etc,etc . Tsk. Yan ang problema pag nakikiuso lang sa takbo. Nun nauso badminton sumasali kayo. Ngayon uso 21k sasali kayo kahit walang training. Kasi ang prinsipyo ng iba basta bayad ang takbo, sulitin daw.   57. I respect Runners. Runners who train everyday. With or without a race, Whether it’s a 5k or an Ultramarathon. I respect runners who is passionate about running. I respect runners who joins races and enjoys their runs, because this is the most imporant thing. Not the redundant medals or shirts, or lootbags. Lastly, I respect and admire Runners who practices The Running Etiquettes, which I believe was posted here in this site. Etiquettes that I know some people in this thread lack, so don’t you question me about Respect. I may sound arrogant and rude, but I know this is a good thing. Kung idadaan ko sa mahahabang speeches eh nonsense lang. I like it IN YOUR FACE.
