  1. @Mark-runner_ph,
Sa Nuvali maganda mag training may uphill and downhill..

Philippine Marathon kuno..

  3. it was my first 21K run. the run was good well organized. pero ni isa wala man lang akong picture…hope to see one of this days.. thanks. memorable run..

  6. “it’s unbelievable that water would run out in the hydration stations where the 21K and the 42K converged”

we were surprised as well. it was unheard of. good thing coach rio acted swiftly and delivered water (himself) at those stations. the same thing happened in roxas blvd where non-participants were also grabbing cups and, worse, bottles of sports drink at the hydration stations. hope you still had fun as well. congrats on your run! :)

  7. “So disappointed with the FOTOLOCO Photobooth. I needed to wait for more than an hour just to get my printed picture.

ang masakit pa dyan eh ung iba sumisingit pa sa pila. if i cant cross the finish line early i just opt to skip the photobooth. most likely eh mahaba na ang pila. kung mamalasin pa eh mas matagal pa ang ipinila mo kesa sa itinakbo. hahaha. i wish they would get hi-speed printers :)

  8. @Mark. Hi Mark it seems that you are a long time runner na and you are an elite. I just want to know your PR for 21k and 42k distance. I also appreciate you are taking time to answer questions by other runners.

  9. “what happened to the runner that was hit by a vehicle? any updates?”

from what i learned earlier, the participant was brought to a nearby hospital. nothin serious. good thing the organizers was able to attend to the patient’s need and got treated immediately

  10. “That was the best route I ever ran and the biggest medal I ever got in my entire life. The post race massage was fantastic at sana palaging may ganitong privilege sa mga runners. Finished with a time of 5:47….sayang kala ko talaga magPR ako kasi nagsub4 ako sa 32k”

still a very fast time. congrats! :)

  11. This is my best run so far. I broke my 1yr record for 21k by 6mins. I joined previous 21km runs this year but to no success to break my record. I finished the run under 2hrs 20mins which put me on top 45% or lower to finish the race. What an achievement for me and it give me a boost to do better.

About the race I like the kilometer marker and the route. Almost every 2kms there is km marker. I just hope that they put a light along buendia flyover since it is rough road. It might cause runners to stumble and it will be chain effect.

I am aiming to join a marathon next year. Any tips? what’s the best race to join a marathon? Is it TBR marathon? kaso lng expensive sya and it is in Sta Rosa not very accessible if you don’t have your own car. I am also thinking of the Milo marathon because it is a lot cheaper. Kaso lng it always rains that day I am not sure if I can do it especially if the rain is not continously pouring.

  12. “it was a great run !! with thousands of people joining it’s impossible not to have
    flaws. that’s a given already”

glad to know that you enjoyed the race. i’ve experienced some of the shortcomings. but it cant be helped. one must adjust to the situation. it all comes down on how prepared you are on a chosen category. congrats and hope to see you on the road! :)

  13. it was a good race, considering i made a new PR for my 42km 4: 45, the only thing is the lack of hydration along the stretch of roxas blvd especially near luneta area, kudos also to coach jim laferty of tbr , position along macapagal ave in front of dampa, giving away cookies and some stuff, and giving moral boost to runners….i like the route ,…hindi sya boring…..good thing i’m not claiming any loyalty shirt, kawawa naman ang haba ng pila,…. at ang nakakalokang pag ikot sa village to get an umbrella…sana next time yun mga head ng sponsor patakbuhin ng 42km para malaman nila kung gaano kahirap tumakbo tapos paikutin kapa just to get that umbrella..naloka lang ako duon hahhaha….

  14. @Mark-runner_ph
Trainer thank you very much for all the notes you gave me. Ayos first FM! Iba talaga kapag may training.

Congrats to all runners especially to all FM!
    Run safe and avoid injury!
    P.S. LOVE YOU ALL RUNNERS!

  15. The GOOD: A couple of Foreigners offering something refreshment, encouraging us, & high fives. They even picked up some trash. Whoever you are Thanks a lot. (see Picture)[email protected] ..
The BAD: more photobooth please. Can’t bring my dog, accdg. to vets he might pick up virus, ticks, heatstroke, etc.
The UGLY: Horns Blaring some where in Makati. A obnoxious foreigner . Probably needs to have his head checked, this is the Philippines man. Don’t they stop the traffic, or reroute the traffic in Boston Marathon or other marathon.
On the lighter side saw Idol Spongebob, he ran despite his injury. Hurrah, Hurrah to you.
Saw Mars Callo, with her never ending smile. Hurrah,Hurrah to you.
Saw Coach Rio with helmet encouraging us to run (making a line with his foot)go-go-go. U can make it. Hurrah,Hurrah, Hurrah for Coach Rio.
Special Thanks to the P.T. U.S.T. Guys Thanks for your smiles, caring and massage. They stop to listen to your stories. I bet u got a story to tell who ever you are. Hurrah-Hurrah-Hurrah Runners we are, forever….

  16. @mj 99

    @tere comment 100
… mission impossible ? well sa determination nyo maam, walang impossible!

    @jho 101
ay sorry po maam! no offense intended…

    @francis 110

yung dream marathon, kaya may kamahalan kasi may support sya from couch to marathoner… maraming clinics at mga test runs. So IMO, ok din sya

    @ariel 116

  17. I noticed that there were several 42K runners who were also victimized by the lack of drinking water or powerade along Roxas blvd towards Luneta. This is the worst experience I had with RunRio. I’m very disappointed that they ran out of drinking water on that route.
I was already on my way of meeting my target time but because of the lack of hydration water it cost me to miss my target time!!! Because everyone I met said that there is no more hydration ahead and therefore, I slowed down in order to avoid any injury…
I don’t like the comment of one person that this is part of the challenge. And during ultra run there is no hydration!!! What a stupid comment!!! Yes, I know that man, that’s why you are told to prepare your hydration during ultra!!! But this is supposed to be Philippine Marathon! And everyone expects that hydration would be provided all throughout the race.
On the loyalty shirt – I hope they will distribute it again at Riovana store on the coming days. I completed all 4 legs this year.
Need a lot of improvements on the post run activities!!!

  18. Great first 21k experience..since I was in the 21k category, i never encountered the problems in hydration stations (complete with water, powerade, banana and cold sponge, aside from the fact that I had my own hydration kit)..claiming of the finisher kit was also a breeze, as in walang pila, exact opposite to what i experienced during the kotr.. All in all, twas a great run!

  19. I agree with Ms Misty, I also share the same experience. Sana next time, mas konti or wala nang basura.

  20. First time to run a full mary and natapos ko naman in good time. I think 2 stations yung naubusan ng water. Anyway Pede pa improve ng Run Rio yan, I think they also need to start earlier like 2am para di gaano abutan ng init.

  23. hmmm!!
Heto pang matindi,, 150m away from the finish line, when suddenly my left calf muscle LOCKED.

  25. @tere
I started at the end of starting line until reaching 21 km at 2:27 along buendia ave. wala me nakita bib no.830, baka mabilis ka pa sakin? Sabayan sana kita eh! May nakita me 803 fat, tall, naka white shirt wearing headset, ikaw ba un tere?

    P.S. LOVE YOU ALL RUNNERS!

  26. Loyalty Shirt Sucks! bat pa kasi pina uso yan! kahit 1st time runner ng RU nkka kuha. pero yung TOTOONG na buo yung RU1 to RUPM sya pa yung di mabigyan sa kadahilanang walang prefered size sa list at need pa daw i pa verify at pipila ka pa ng pag ka haba habang verification line. samantalang yung iba sa BOOTH A-E pakita mo lng yung bib mo ok na me loyalty shirt na! GRRRR.

  27. @runrio
Walang H20 at powerade ang ibang station! Priority to FM!

God bless us all runners! Remember run safe and avoid injury, See you at New Balance Power Run 25km me dito.

    P.S. LOVE YOU ALL RUNNERS!

  28. @ mark -runner_ph 135
    a ok tnx sa info.
Actually kasi yung right calf yung ini ingatan kong mg lock up kasi, nag ccramps na.

  29. i think nagkaubusan ng hydration along roxas blvd dahil sa mga joggers sa area hindi dahil sa 21k runners, maybe next time wag na sa roxas kasi ang dami tao dun although maganda yung scenery.. and panget talaga yung quality ng finisher shirt at yung fitting iba sa ru3, i guess iba talaga yung gumawa.. all in all it was a good run..

  30. @Mark-Runner_ph,
sa Canlubang to Nuvali ako nag training more or less 25k balikan, up and down hill plus heat training na din kasi alang puno talaga…

thanks and Good luck sa mga susunod mo pang run!

    God bless!

  31. after the run, lahat ng nakita kong may medal (21k and definitely 42K) kinakamayan ko.. it is indeed a very humbling experience, I had a first hand experience of running a full marathon and appreciate everyone who did as well..

WE PASSED OUR RIGHT OF PASSAGE ! ! ! :)

  32. @Mark-Runner_ph,
Madalas yun din problem ko. Currenty I have blisters in my 6 toes. As in sa right 4 then sa left dalawa. I ran for 42K last RUPM and that’s what I got. :). They said I got the wrong shoes. In your case try mo muna bumili ng running socks talaga or you can put petroleum jelly. Pero kung di siya effective you should buy another shoes, but first you should consult on the experts what type of shoes is right for you.

  34. Congrats to all finishers and winners!

Anyway, here are the lessons I learned:
    1. Hydration belt/pack is a good investment. Bring it when you can. Kahit maraming water stations. Tyak mahaba ang pila. Gaya neto naubusan.
    3. There is life after the race. So conserve energy and hydrate well. Mahaba pila after the race sa claiming ng finisher’s kit, etc etc… Hayst!
    4. Bring tsinelas. This is handy after the race.
    5. Stretching stretching stretching! For the next race…

    Yan lang naalala ko e.

    Now Outbreak Manila naman….

Note: This was my first 21K. Woot!

  35. “First 21km ko barefoot pa.. ok ung first 17kms.. nadurog lang ung paa ko nung pa moa na from starcity! takte rough road.. di kinaya ng paa ko! hahaha! halos 1hr din ung lakad kong un”

rough road nga ung diosdado macapagal stretch. still you finished the race. congrats! =)

Karamihan naman siguro ng runners wanted to have a good PR kaya usually either naglalakad na or tumatakbo na kaagad pagkakuha kaya by the time na mainom or makain nila yong saging medyo malayo na sa trash net. :)

  38. ito ang first full marathon ko. ang dami ng negative experiences during and after the run. but still naging best experience ko pa rin ang pag-cross ng finishline lalo na ng banggitin ni running host ang name ko. naubusan man ako ng tubig along roxas blvd route and also waited for almost an hour claiming for the loyalty shirt, ito pa rin ang pinakamasayang pagtakbo ko so far. salamat sa mga nag-cheer near the finishline. the best talaga kayo mga running friend ko.

  39. Is it just me or this happens to others too?

2 weeks before this (my 1st 42k) I had a knee injury. Probably developed it from jumping and sprinting during obstacle runs and the urbanathlon. I never consulted any doctors about it coz I’m afraid they might suggest to cancel my RUPM 42k and so…I persisted. I just kept saying: NO PAIN!, NO PAIN! NO PAIN!

Then came race day, I can feel it slightly aching on the first few km. But after a while, it miraculously vanished. As in literally, the knee joint pain is gone (though replaced by aching calf muscles).

    Is running truly a therapy?

btw, congrats to all the first time marathoners who finished the race

  40. “first time kong mag 21k – 2hrs and 44.something – yeheey

Usually alternate or every third.

    @Titanium jaw 139

    @jho 141

    https://foothealth.about.com/od/exercisefeet/ss/FootExercises_6.htm

open to public ba yung trails ng nuvali ?

    @runner.ice 142

congrats pare ! marathoner ka na!

    @mine_keeper 143

ayos pare laking improvement! keep up the good work… sa RUPM 2013 pwedeng pwede nang i-target ang sub 4 !

  42. about the hydration, consider the following why naubos:
    -daming standby sa roxas blvd
    -daming joggers (non RU participants)
    -daming bikers

HAHAHA!

Next 42K on sight is Condura!! :)

Practice major runs: Milo-21K and Subic Int Marathon-21K

    congrats ulit sa mga finishers

  44. @alexis 159

    @heart 163
epekto ng mind over matter pre…

  45. HeartOfAChampion,

  46. I felt the lack of sufficient hydration just made it more challenging, I consider it part part of the obstacle we had to face last sunday.

Sanay na kasi ako nasasaraduhan ng mga water station given my prolonged time, and I guess I know my body can handle the lack of water (during intervals within the run) So no hard feelings sa runrio… it practically happens at almost every event, kaso kami lang mga bottom of the pack runners nakakaramdam nito.

The lesson here is prepare, prepare, prepare… every type of situation, every possible outcome.

I consumed 2
    3 salt capsuls, I consumed 2
1 holistic gel (from healthy options) I gave it to a fellow runner, 2 bananas lang kasi solid na ako.
    2 kremel s, unconsumed
    1 advil fast acting, consumed
    500p emergency money. untouched

Madami ako salt dala coz I was expecting to be dehydrated due to the heat ( and to prevent me from having a dizzy spell during the run. coz 2 weeks na ako me dizzy spells.)

In the end solid yung dala ko, very useful. I know drinking an advil during the run is bad, but if it could mean crossing the finish I did drink it. Buti nalang I did bring it coz at 22k I was already in pain (maaga sumakit yung feet ko due to my added weight) dahil sa advil I crossed the finish running, kahit yung mga kasama ko di na nakakatakbo. (Pero dapat alam nyo ang danger ng advil during or after a run, para safe kayo. Know the risk)

During heat training din, I realized that my body required to be drenched every couple of minutes to prevent my core from over heating, so kumuha ako sa isa sa mga station ng bottle of water (yung mga naubusan ng baso malapit sa moa) tapos nagbubuhos ako until I reached moa. Again life saver.

I think all I want to say, that no matter how good or bad the rep of your running events are, you have to know your body, and make sure you bring all the necessary tools you’ll need during the event, it could actually save your life.

Coming from someone who has a lot of ailments, me sakit ka o wala, di normal ang 21k at 42k run, it can do serious damage to your body if you let it. You can even die (and we have heard stories of people losing the lives on the road.)

So next time be a girl scout or boy scout. Kung ayaw nyo ng scout, Dora the explorer nalang ‘backpack! backpack!’ hehe

Run safe guys hope to see you on the road soon! Kita kits sa mag Midnight Run! *Muwahaha!*

    =)

  47. @abaca

  48. @HeartOfAChampion. Good for you. Maybe the knee injury was not that worst pa. Ako rin i have nagging pain sa ankle minsan pero nawawala din sya pag tumatakbo ako ng long distance. I don’t look that as injury. It’s just that I know the cause of it. It’s because of the wrong foot landing. Wrong form lng talaga. It should be toes pointing forward not to the side.
Just be careful with injuries. Pls listen to your body. Trying to ignore the pain might cause you serious injury and might stop you from running for weeks.

  49. everestrunner @153

Thanks Sir, More Congrats sa atin dalawa, we done it with out injury ang 2nd 42k run natin.

    Stay Fit and Healthy

  50. @Mark 121.
Thanks for the info. Grabe 1:40 for 21k and 3:43 for 42k. Impressive. For me you are an elite runner pa rin. So for 21k your average speed is not going below 12km/hr. Siguro sa 21k run you are finishing as top 30 runners out of the thousands runners. Achievement yun pag na reach ko yun.
How long you have been running na po? Do you have a buddy or group when running? Nag TBR ka na rin ba? Is it your first FM in TBR? Ska naka ilang FM ka na rin po?

Kaya simula last year hindi na po kami sumasali sa kahit anong RU and other commercialized running events. Nakita kasi ng mga organizers na may market for this, kahit masyadong mataas ang registration fee may kakagat pa rin. And dun nagsisimula ang mga reklamo, they expect too much because of high registration fee.

  52. a few meters from the finish line I heard 3 old bike riders shout with one event marshal shouting also with a high pitch voice … I glanced and noticed that the marshal was rio de la cruz himself .. I wonder whats the shouting all about … its chaos near anarchy in the redemption of loyalty shirt .. a lot of “aburido” runners mostly from 42km runners who after the run .. aching and tired … have to wait and fall in line for the releasing of loyalty shirt …

  54. well, gusto ko lng nman maexperience sa RU n patakbo ru3 32k & rupm 42k, kahit baguhan pa lng, kaya ko pla.. maybe next year is a big No kng ganyan p rin ndi ma resolve n mga case, finisher shirts, mas marami large sizes prinoproduce, etc..

  55. mixed good and bad sides of the marathon:
    – better if merong on-site registration, my mom-in-law and bro-in-law wasn’t able to register, sayang naman :(
    – the best and biggest medal i’ve ever had :)
    – very accommodating ang mga massage therapist, the best!!! :)
    – very organized marshals throughout the route
    – overall e super ok sakin ang event na to :)

  56. I ran the half marathon and I’m really delighted about the race course. Imagine, from bgc to moa! And I ran that! It adds to the feeling of accomplishment. Kudos to run rio! All the other issues raised are minor to me, the important thing is that I had a good time. :)

ung mga pila di naman ako pumipila for freebies so no comment ako dun.
just for a payong, thanks na lang po

    results na lang hinihintay…

  59. Wonderful run for us, 21-km in 2:08:02. thanks everyone who cheered us on, especially our fellow runners. It was a 21-km run to celebrate Kevin’s 21st Bday. I can sense that he truly felt included and part of the running community. Our heartfeld gratitude to everyone. — Team Never Run Alone.
