  1. @barefooddaves: Ganun po ba, wala po kasi akong napansin, and I have to agree with you that they should somehow put a km marker para kahit papano ma-gauge ang running time.

  2. @barefootdaves: Hahaha… kung alam nyo lang po ang dinanas ko don sa 32K na yon… but am so glad I made it to the finish line within my target time in mind. Am also hoping to finish my first FM.

    kung papansinin nyo may mga broken lines ung circle nya which is sakto ung sabitin ng tatlong medal. . and beside I read sa runrio.com , nakalagay eto doon

    “The completed UNITED medal from the 2012 Run United Trilogy series (21-21-21/32) fits into the RUPM finisher’s medal. Having have completed all these medals shows a true testament of your commitment to progress your active lifestyle through UNILAB Active Health’s 2012 Run United Series.”

    tapos eto ung URL nya
    https://runrio.com/2012/04/run-united-philippine-marathon-2/

  4. Tama si angelo. Yung finishers medal dito will accomodate yung complete set ng RU which means mas malaki pa sa platito ang laki ng medal na ibibigay nila…mas malaki pa kumpara sa bngay sa milo.

  5. doing 50K/week training for this.. Good luck to all first time 42K runners like me.

    to those living near San Juan, Mandaluyong,Ortigas area.. baka pwede kami sali sa training nyo ng utol ko[he’s doing his first HM on this event]..

  6. re KM markers,
    consider the weather..pag umuulan or simply mahangin tendency talaga babagsak yun. and you can’t expect every runners na mapadaan to fix it. kung may marshall man sa malapit, im sure aayusin nila yun.
    but,at the minimum every 3km meron sana markers. wag naman 1km, sa kin kasi pag ganun napapaisip ako ng “ang layo ko pa!” =) joke!

  7. @sam
    Do you even know what lazypig means? You are uneducated and have no ethics. Let’s be good mannered people, you are using a public website. You don’t speak ill, you are using a public website.

  9. @runner.ice – 50K/week? Wow!

    After 32K, still thinking if mag-FM na ako or balik HM. Kelangan ko na magtraining. Goodluck runners!

  10. @rio runner:

    been running several times pero 10k longest.
    doing my first 21k this time.
    salamats!

  13. hoping may post every kilometer sa 42k ng RUPM just like milo marathon..1300 for a runrio event @ 42k, so far..RU1-3 maayos naman..sana ganito din sa RUPM..see on the road guys on october 28…

  15. @Burnz: that’s 50K spreaded in 5days and 2 day rest.. kaya naman, basta dedicated. dont want to take 7 hours on my 1st marathon :)

    Go runners. train hard, Run harder [on race day].

    baka may running club/runners near San Juan,Ortigas,& Mandaluyong.
    maybe we can set a training run together. :)

  16. Anyone else here expecting to hit 7 hrs during this run? Just curious, coz I wanna exchange notes. hehe

    Seriously anyone out there? 7 hrs? coz I kinda worried I’m gonna be the only one out there running at that time… help a gal out here! hehe

  17. @barefootdaves: thanks. we run without finish line.
    @everestrunner: 2nd time natin ito.

    maybe this is my last run for 42k.. T_T

  19. @mine_keeper: Wish you all the best for this event. Keep on running buddy! Ok lang ma inlove ka sa ibang sports (like swimming or mountaineering) pero sana wag mong talikuran ang pagtakbo…

  20. suggestion lang:

    runrio should have a mat to check every timing chips before the start of every race. sayang naman ang takbo kung walang result, di ba kasama sa bayad yun…

    https://soc.li/8AF5NuY

    basis lang ito, hindi saktong sakto. Sa akin lang ang importante ay may idea kung saan yung 10k, 21k, 30k, 40k .

    10k – C5 makalampas ng mckinley hills, bago mag heritage
    21k – Buendia, after Makati Central Post Office
    30k – Roxas after EDSA flyover, going to Luneta
    40k – Macapagal Blvd. cor. Seaside Blvd

  23. @abaca comment 114

    sorry boz chief, wala ako HRM… wala ako idea. Saka po sa hindi heart rate based ang training ko po, time plus distance po.

    @banesto comment 138
    sa ibang bansa, merong test receiver para ma double check yung chip kung tama. dito sa atin wala.

    @tere comment 133
    maam IMO, sobrang tagal na po ang 7 hours para sa full. Bali 3:30 para sa half na yon. Hope you would reconsider. Habang tumatagal sa daan, lalong tumataas ang risk. Meron naman pong 21k. Mag move up na lang kung kaya na kahit sub6 man lang.

  28. Just my 2nd pikermi run; set to break PR (2:35) by 10-15 mins. No more injuries this time, I hope.

    Medyo nag-deviate ng konti yung singlet design, if you care to notice. But I like the prints; it’s finer than RU3’s.

  29. May Cut off time ba ang 42km for 7hrs? I heard from some of the runners that they will sweep the 42km runners around 8:30am, so if 3am ang start then 8:30am ang sweep that will be 5 and a half hours, Is this true? Please clarify… thank you

  30. @abaca 149

    Ako naman, kung ang nasa sched eh all out, all out talaga…

Slower than tempo… Bakit ?

  31. @Mark-runner_ph

    Sir Mark galing niyong mag discuss at explain ha!

    P.S. Love you all runners!

  32. i just registered this afternoon
    ano na nangyari sa runrio at unilab????
    1st RUPM p nman, limited edition race singlet daw

  33. @ 13th Runner

    Tapos yung print tabingi.

  36. @ Mark-runner_ph: pwede maki-join sa discussion nyo? need ko lang konting advice… Tanung ko lang kung kelangan pa mag-training ng long runs (every other day) 2 weeks before RUPM. registered na ako for 42km and on continues training after RU 3 (32Km). My training schedule is on tuesdays(14km), thursdays(16km), saturdays(21km) and sundays(16km) at 6-7 mins per km. On this week I plan to adjust my training at 16km – 21km – 26km – 32km. Next week either tuesday or wednesday try ko maka 38 km then pahinga na. Tama ba ang training na gagawin ko. More or less 10 days before RUPM ok nb recovery period? as in wala na talaga takbo or slow runs sa umaga. Thanks Mark…God Bless us all…

  37. @quicksilver

    Good question! Like it runner “quicksilver”

    Sir Mark?

    Remember training safe and no injury! God Bless us all runners

    P.S. Love you all runners!

  39. @abaca comment 160, 169
    as per experience ko lang ako ha… baka hindi applicable sa inyo yung iba kong ginagawa dahil iba iba tayo. Ako minsan nag 21k 1 week prior sa 42k race. Relax lang sa race na yon, hindi pang PR, saktong sub marathon pace lang. Pero iba iba tayo.

    tuloy tuloy lang ang mga tanong. Kung may idea ako, post ako ng opinion ko. Trial and error kong natutunan lahat, at tambay sa mga threads dati nung buhay pa ang takbo ph .

    @quicksilver comment 168

    taas ng mileage mo ah… inggit ako… usually 10 to 15 ako twice a week tapos long run, 21k onwards sa weekend pag peak. Bantayan mo lang na baka masobrahan ka. Masama rin ang over training, pagdating ng raceday, baka lalo kang manghina.

    Kung ok ka training mo ngayon, kampante ako na matapos mo ng ayos ang 42k nyan… sabihin natin sa 7min/km… sigurado ka na sa sub 5hours nyan. Kung 1st time mo, conserve ka. Ang marathon nagsisimula sa 32k. Pero kung 35k na at parang kaya mo pa, sige increase ng pace.

    Tapos naman sa taper, sa akin lang ok na 10 days. Pero ang taper mo lower distance, pero yung intensity pareho. So sabihin natin na gawin mong 6 6 tapos 15 yung last week prior sa race, tapos pang pagising na lang ng dugo yung sa race week. Try mo sa iyo, pero yan yung usually na pag taper ko sa akin. Lower distance, pero sub marathon yung pace… bali try mo sa sub 6 minutes.

    Mapapansin mo na hingal ka, pero fresh yung paa mo. Tapos 2 days before relax ka na, iwas mall muna. Iwas overtime, bawal puyat at malipasan ng gutom. Dapat laging may snacks sa desk, peanuts, almonds o kasuy panalong panalo na yan. Chocolates ok din snickers, cloud 9… basta yung may nuts. Bawal mauhaw… inom lagi ng tubig. Tapos 1 day before, load up sa gatorade… ako usually 2-3 liters sa saturday hanggang early morn ng sunday. Hindi ako dumadami ng kain, regular lang (pero yung regular ko na kain pang 2 tao… ewan ko ba ganoon talaga ako), pero binabawi ko sa gatorade.

    Based sa training mo, sigurado din ako na kakayanin mo na mag ultra… sa 50km muna. Konti lang ang difference noon sa full.

    Gatorade / powerade pareho lang, pero kasi mas mura yung gatorade, meron silang 1.5 litro pack ata yon… Ok din powerade dahil yon yung sa RUPM.

    tapos sa susunod na marathon cycle sa early 2013, pwede naman ang gawin mong priority eh yung pace. andyan na yung baseline na endurance, intervals naman ang pwede mong gawin focus… Kayang kaya yang sub 4 na full nyan. Paghihirapan, pero kakayanin.

    sana makatulong

    @frank comment 171
    i deliver yon… hintayin mo lang usually 1 week before sa race nila ilalabas yon.

  40. @solidus #1166

  42. Mark-runner_ph: maraming salamat sa mga inputs mo. sobra mo kmi naeeducate d2. sna lhat ng runners d2 eh 2lad mo n willing to help. khit nung first time n mdiscover ko 2ng pinoy fitness eh un mga comments mo n inaabangan ko kc medyo naiirate aq dun s iba n my slight yabang s mga comments nila. hope to read more tips from you at sna 1 s mga race event eh mamit kita at mkpagpapic din as souvenir. hehehe. da best k tkga idol!

  43. @Mark – runner_ph:

    very nice and useful running tips para sa mga baguhan pa lang sa sports na ito like me… I will surely follow your advise. Many thanks and keep it up buddy!

    Stay fit and run safe always!

  44. @ Mark-runner_ph: Thanks Mark…gagawin ko advice mo lalo na yung sa taper malaking tulong sakin yun. eto magiging training program ko this week. kahapon nag 16km na ako tomorrow 21 saturday 26 kung kaya pa sunday try ko more than 26. Next week yung advice mo na 6 6 15 then sa final week short distance (3-5km)at pang sub marathon ang pace tama ba? after this hingi ulit ako advice for pace training para sa inaasam na sub 4 sa 42km. subukan lang kung kakayanin para mas enjoy ang pagtakbo. Salamat ulit…

  46. Registered. 21k lang.
    di pa kaya 42k based on my experience sa last 32k run.

    see you soon guys.

    keep on running.

  47. @limited 173
    @adik 176
    @everest 177

    binabalik ko lang yung natutunan ko sa community. Sa akin lang, maraming sumusuko sa pagtakbo once na nadiskobre nila na mahirap pala.

    @quicksilver 179

    may nabasa ako sa runners world, sa taper cut back sa mileage pero dapat yung intensity hindi nagbabago. Effective sa akin, dahil kailangan fresh yung legs ko pagdating ng raceday… pero importante na ang cadio natin hindi manghina… kaya dapat mas intense kumpara sa normal na takbo. Sa experience ko lang ha, 1 week na walang takbo, ramdam ko agad na madali na akong hingalin. Ok lang kung 5k o 10k ang takbo, kaso kung malayuan na, half o full, talagang mahihirapan na. Paghiningal ka, hindi na efficient ang takbo mo, dadating na ang side stitch, bad form, saka cramps … huhuhu

    faster sa marathon pace mo ang mga huling takbo. Ako hanggang sa hingalin, yan yung nag dictate ng pace ko.

    As for the sub 4, marami akong binago sa takbo ko, training at disiplina bago ko nakamit. Pero sa tingin ko kaya natin lahat yan… Lahat nang nakaka 1:55 sa half, may potential maka sub 4 sa full. Pero sa experience ko lang, naging sanay muna ako sa distance na 42k bago ako nag attempt ng sub4. Officially, sa 3rd marathon ko nakuha ang sub4, dahil yung una kong 2 5:15. May 1 year gap nga lang bago sa 3rd try, at maraming marathon distance na training runs.

    Pero meron akong kilala na 1:4x sa half, pero hindi pa rin kinaya ang sub4.

  48. Will only run a 21k here since my right foot hasn’t completely recovered from Bohol Marathon 2012.

    Training for first-time 42kers:
    Last long run, 2 weeks or so before the 42k itself. Rest A LOT! And never underestimate the power of hydrating well days before the 42k. As for carbo-loading, start a few days before; baka masira pa tiyan niyo kung the night before. Use your comfy socks = malaking bagay ‘to!

    For those running their first 42k, I’ll be cheering you guys on from the sidewalk. Wag niyo muna isipin ang finish time; a wise marathoner (Dr. Abe) once told me, “a marathon finisher is a marathon finisher”.

    Normal matakot the night before; normal na pumasok yung ‘giving up’ thoughts while on the 32-38km. Pero yung ngiti sa 42.194km, IBANG KLASE :) For signing up, congratulations na! It takes a LOT of courage to dedicate your time and your body to one of the most difficult challenges a runner can overcome.

    Good luck po sa lahat! Sa mga 21k runners, kita-kits :D

    P.S. Shoutout to Powerade for the free race kit :P

  49. Jason Cruz (@jsncruz) comment 185:

    bro,kinilabutan naman ako sa : “a marathon finisher is a marathon finisher”.

    this is indeed inspiring. :)

    well of course madame pa akong extra rice at road dirt na kakainin during trainings bago pa man ako magdecide mag full mary. long, long way to go :D

  50. @Jullius
    Thanks for the reply kaso nasa province pa ako eh =( Will try to keep true to my training sched though.

    @Runner.ice
    See you at the start line! and good luck to us all 1st timers! =)

    @Mark_Runner_ph
    Don’t worry mark I know the risk, thanks for the concern (coz I have asthma and MVP even 3km is a risk if I don’t pay attention to my body, so I train for my illness hence the long time) In the end 7 hrs already equals the same stress as a ultra to us slow runners (I do my homework hence I know the dangers) its a test on how long your body can hold the stress and the challenge is much more exciting for us slow runners. =) (fyi lang 7 hrs is 3:12 in 21k)

    @Jason Cruz (@jsncruz)
    Congrats on your Bohol run and hope you recover faster! Smooth move on taking it slow, your right don’t push it otherwise you may need to end your running career faster due to critical injury. Good luck on your 21k and run safe!

    Kita kits sa starting line guys! Crossing my fingers that the sweeper bus does not eat me before I reach the finish. In the end 7 hrs or not a promise to oneself must never be broken, coz if you can’t keep your promise to yourself how do you expect to trust yourself in the future? So 42k here I come! Wala na atrasan ito! Good luck to us all!

    Haha parati ko nalang kalaban ang sweeper bus!

  51. wow tere! i, too is an asthmatic runner. that’s why i also have longer time records in almost all category that i have participated in…

    but i do make efforts to train hard for every event and i make sure to finish each race…sana i can also have the nerve to run full marathon someday.hehehe..idol kita for that.

    crossing my fingers that my schedule would permit me to run my second half mary this time.

    run safe! cheers! :)

  52. @e-runner
    7 hour marathon is a 9:58m/km. Its like brisk walking with a few jogs. I dont wana take pride in finishing a marathon by walking, and brag about it. 42km distance is not a joke, and one should be physically and mentally prepared
    Just my 2 cents.

  53. @Mark-runner_ph
    Very, very, very thank “my trainer”wehehehe
    @Jason Cruz (@jsncruz)
    You make me proud. God bless us!
    @Tere
    I salude to you! Give me your bib no baka sabayan pa kita.

    42km me dito. God bless us all runners
    P.S. LOVE YOU ALL RUNNERS

  54. It tool me a year and a half of running 10k and 21k runs before I had the balls to run my first full mary at the Milo marathon held last 29 June 2012. I finished the race at 5:36. Back then, I thought it was impossible to meet that darn cut-off but I did. Because I had a hydration backpack, I was able to skip a lot of the hydration stations thereby saving me a whole lot of time. I also took celebrex an hour before the run and on the fourth hour (that’s just me). I also brought with me 4 sachets of bodivance and 2 energy bars. I broke the entire 42k into 3 targets: 21k by 2:30hrs, the next 11k before the 5th hour or earlier, and the last 11k in 1 hour. The last target was nearly impossible for me because of the fatigue factor. Definitely the lactic acid buildup will catch up with you. Therefore to meet the cutoff, I had to make the best of my run from the 21st to the 32nd km. I was able to meet my goal at 4:10 thereby giving me enough time to finish the last 10km. The rains also was helping in giving me temporary relief…actually it helped a lot. Anyways, what I’m trying to say is that in order to finish a full mary, you need to have a strategy. And above all, you need to train for it meaning, you should have done your long and short runs during the past 2-3 months consistently prior to the race. I agree with Jsin Cruz that a marathon finisher is a marathon finisher no matter what. I also agree that for all those who dreamed of finishing a full marathon, you need to start somewhere. It was a life-changing event for me and I hope it will be for you. Good luck and enjoy the run. :)

  55. @ e-runner 184

    walked na last 5k all the way to finish line.
    both feet were already in pain.
    factor maybe, 1st time to run thru the rain.

    but main factor i think, preparation not sufficient. need to do more.
    running 21k 6 times this year is not enough to say 32k is the same.
    definitely different level.

    because of the experience, i know now what to do next.
    just like joeshmoe’s comment 190,
    “should be physically and mentally prepared.”

  56. My 1st 21k, and 32k sleepless nights. My mind can’t get over the thought of what’s gonna happen. Most likely as 42k approaches sleepless night again.

  58. Comments and Suggestions pls…

    Good afternoon Runners,
    Im Aldrin, 28 yo, a newly addicted to running. I just started registering to fun run last July of this year, a 6K run in a local fundraising then I joined the Milo and RU 3 both 10k’s and another local run this sat. Im 5’9 and 184 lbs. lost some weight though. i tried to practice run 2-3 x a week 8-10K each. i havent joined a training camp yet. the problem is, i wanted to run this 28 for my 1st 21k. is it advisable for me to join this event given that im a newbie and havent tried doing beyond 10k run? need some advice. a friend of mine is pushing me to join but most of my friends are having second thoughts (given all my friends are non-runners). Thank you for taking time to read

    try a couple of 10km race events first before actually embarking on a 21km. You can always try a 21km right now pero baka mabigla ka. With safety precautions, I am confident you can reach the finish line. Its just an issue of how ready your legs are for a 21k. Since you told me you run 8-10km 2 to 3 times a week why not go for a 15km this week? just to get the feel then decide. By jumping in the water, you already have your work cut out for you. But it would be stupid as well if you do so without preparing. Injuries can happen even if you train/prepare, how much more if you didn’t?
