The race date for the upcoming Rexona Run 2012 has finally been released! Time to save the date guys! Outdo Yourself at the upcoming Rexona Run 2012 on August 12, 2012 to be held at SM Mall of Asia!
Rexona Run 2012- Outdo Yourself!
August 12, 2012 postponed to September 23, 2012
SM Mall of Asia!
5K/21K/21K Relay
[UPDATE as of 8-8-2012]
Dear Runners,
Due to the heavy rains, we will be postponing the REXONA RUN 2012 event to SEPTEMBER 23, Sunday still at the Mall of Asia grounds. We feel that due to the current calamity, it would be inappropriate to still push through with the event. We have taken into consideration that a lot of the runners may be living in affected areas, and that our route marshals are part of the AFP so they will be busy with relief operations.
Instead, we will be focusing our efforts on relief operations this weekend, particularly in Marikina. You are very much welcome to participate or help out in any way. More details will be posted soon.
Thank you for understanding. Please stay safe and dry!

Hahaha. Stick to what Runrio will give us. 10.5k na nga lang tatakbuhin natin eh. hahahaha peace!
@sweeper comment 398
as per website ng runrio, sa race day ibibigay yung race belt
@ron 399
demanding ah…
At least ngayon merong medal kahit 10k.
Guys – its been a week since magregister ako online pero as of today eh di ko pa din narereceive un race kit ko. anyone knows knino or contact number n pde ifollow up un kit ng mga nag online?
Here we go again…
People justifying that being a bandit is acceptable . . .
Not only that, there are people saying that those who are opposed to bandits must be harboring even worse secrets . . .
I mean, are bandit runners actually proud of going against the rules and regulations?
Are bandit runners proud of taking advantage of the situation without shelling one peso? Yes, I know that bandits wont use the hydration stations, wont get the freebies, but part of the registration fee goes to blocking out traffic, ensuring safety, etc.
Sorry for the rant but I really can’t believe that people are saying that bandit running is justifiably, ethically, and morally acceptable.
@Solo Runner:
no apologies needed. a rant is acceptable as long as you are saying the truth! likewise i cannot stomach to run as a bandit and feel proud about it.
i guess some people are born to act as animals. i hope those bandits will be hit/run by motorists during races!
“bandit ako sa 42k sa milo at the same time support group sa isang runner pero tatakbo muna ako sa 5K hoping to break my PR last year. Ung 5K ko may bayad un ha. Tsktsk!” – d’sweeper
@d,sweeper
GOD BLESS US…
@lonerunner
Kung gusto mo ng personal pacer, the right thing to do i-register ng runner ang pacer nya.
Its ironic how you agreed that running doesn’t entail observing other runners para laitin then at your next sentence nilalait mo paying runners by saying bandits are better runners. Tsk tsk
For those arguing that roads are open to the public or its their usual route, no one is stopping you from running pero bakit ang mga bandits nakikipag siksikan sa corral and sumasabay pa sa gunstart ng organized runs? Why cant they just go ahead and run.. Kasi gusto nyo makisali sa festive and competitive atmosphere of these paid runs.
These bandits and those who condone them feels this practice is harmless… What they don’t realize is that the disgust of those who are willing pay to participate in these runs are due to their blatant and unapologetic attitude ng pang gugulang sa kapwa runners.
I was taught on Ethics class that:
What is LEGALLY right may NOT always be MORAL, but what is MORAL is always LEGAL.
Also, before I comment on ‘sensitive’ stuff (like this BANDIT thing), I always assume myself on each camp’s shoes: what would I feel if it were done to me? To be precise, what would these bandits feel if they’re the ones who paid and we’re the ones who crash the party? Would they say that it’s OK, or feel bad?
And lastly, let me share a guide to INNER PEACE:
1) If you don’t like the situation, CHANGE it;
2) If you can’t change it, ACCEPT it;
3) If you can’t accept it, GET AWAY FROM it.
Happy running, everyone!
All I can say…
Goodluck to all the runners…
Bandits or not…
Lucky enough for those who can afford to register for the run. For those who can’t register… jog na lang kayo sa gilig gilid ng di napag iinitan ng mga mayayaman. Sayang naman kasi binabayad nila… Baka kung mapaano pa sila.
And to those runners who can register.
LOL
See you guys at the finish line :)
World peace!!!
@Tikoy:
I don’t need a pacer coz I run alone.
I’ve said some bandits are better runners… why?! coz some are more disciplined runners than those who were able to registered… it’s not all about running anyway.
Can you comment on our fellow registered runners?! Observe them sometimes…
This is not good:
I am not comparing who is the better runner—registered runners or bandit runners.
What I am dismayed about is that there are bandit runners who are shameless in their actions as if they are in the right. As if what there is nothing wrong with what they are doing.
@oiRunner:
@Tikoy comment 411
Why can’t they just go ahead and run..”
Some races also state no to personal, unpaid pacers. Dapat may bib ang pacers.
@lonerunner comment 414
“And to those runners who can register.
Respect begets respect.
At may bonus pa na keychain sa finish line. Medal o tshirt ba ang hinahanap? Samahan pa ng keychain.
Ensayo lang ng ensayo.
I dare all bandits who commented here and justified na hindi naman bawal ang mga tulad nila sa mga paid event na:
– Ipost sa harap ng tech shirt/singlet nila na ang word na “I am a BANDIT” using a bond paper and written in black waterproof ink tapos idikit nila sa isang old bib.
That way we can easily recognize you guys.
Guys – i have been reading this blog since ma post 2ng rexona run. at first mukang OK un usapan. some bloggers are eager to help with regards to the reagistration like @Mark. apparently biglang naopen un bandits issue at naging topic n lage ng argumentation as in walang katapusang argumentation kung legal ba o ok lng ba or bkit ba? medyo nakaka upset lng kc i am a begginer when it comes to running. You know guys, this is supposed to be a FUN RUN right? bka nman po pde iset aside n ntin ung issues about bandits kc di n matatapos un argumento nyo hanggang may ayaw patalo. bandits eh anjan n yan.. sabe nga nung isang blogger eh let the organisers do what they have to do about them. FUN RUN to eh. we want to enjoy running. bka pde lets unite n lng pra sa success nitong event n 2. To those Veteran Runners eh request ko lng po na bka pde bigyan nyo nman kmi ng tips on how to become a good runner. ano po ba dapat nmin gawin since nag start p lng kmi. what foods should we eat before running or any motivational tips lng. bka mas makaencourage p tau ng mas maraming runners. we do running for our health.. kya sna nman lets forget n lng po un bandits issue.. we (begginers) are counting on you and asking for your suggestions or advice mga Veteran Runners. Hope may mareceive kmi good info po sa inyo.. Maraming Salamat po and God Bless us all Runners..
@GenRo yup, di na nga matatapos tong usapin na to kung tungkol sa morally right ng bandits or not. Its a good thing that you started something different like asking for advises etc. Sana magpost ung iba ng kanya kanyang tips nlng na working for them siguro mas magiging productive mga comments dito.
For me: Proper training based on your target distance, proper nutrition (including hydration and enough rest. 21K runners usually do carbo-loading 2 or 3 days prior to the event para may enough energy. You may also try buying or borrowing run-related magazines like Runners Philippines, Multisport etc, madami silang tips na worth reading kaysa sa mga pagtatalo regarding bandits vs registered runners.
@mark: comment 419
Thumbs up! At sana ma-digest na nila. :)
Oh well I rest my case…
Goodluck to all the runners.
Will just reiterate my comment 379
“Let the organizers do their job, if they allow bandits then its ok…”
People still don’t get it . . .
We aren’t talking about people’s actions or manners while in a run
We are talking about people’s PRESENCE in the event
So are bandit runners in the right to even be present in the event?
@ Genro what work’s for me is a train well and my training runs is harder than the raceday itself.
With regards to food it’s up to you as well. It might what work’s for me might not work for you. So test the drinks, gels, fruits, and food during your training period. Include also your intended shoes and apparel to be used during the raceday test it while on training. Why I am staying this because my running partner takes coffee before the run for him it work’s but it my case it’s not. He takes gel before the race but me bananas and peanut butter sandwich. During our marathons he takes salt but me boiled saging na saba with salt. During our ultras he ate noodles but me hard boiled eggs. Hope you see my point. Different folks different stroke.
With regards to training it is better to have speed work/speed training, hill training, long runs, and short runs plus crossing training days in between your training runs within the week.
One sure thing is not having enough sleep before the race day will definitely ruin your run. Hope it will help and keep on running.
can we refrain from being philosophical?
as the saying goes morality cannot be legislated but behavior can be regulated. morality is a relative term and what is moral to you may not be moral to others.
bottomline if you join a fee-based race for free then you are violating a rule or regulation. it is that simple and being a violator makes a runner a “bandit”.
it is a shame some people justify their existence. * sigh *
@ Solo Runner,
I’m afraid they won’t be able to get it.
Parang sa food chain, nasa dulo sila.
In the words of a former boss, ‘utak-squatter.’
Not belittling the poor, mind you. It’s just the way they think. Not much difference between employer-employee relationship, particularly yung mga old-school union leadership. =(
@runner comment 420
– -agree ako sa idea mo. . sa RU3 (32k category) tatakbo ako as bandit kasi di ako magpaparegister :) i’ll try to do that! (just remind me) hehe. .
@Genro comment 422
“bka pde lets unite n lng pra sa success nitong event n 2”
– -agree ako dito. . kaya bandit + registered runner = UNITY :)
Clarification: I am not a fan of bandit and not a hater too. . I just dont care whether they exist or not on the event as long as they dont harm me. LOL
@runner comment 420.
This July, twice na akong nagbandit! For almost 1 year na akong tumatakbo out of 22 runs, 9 times akong nagbandit.
Run with you heart… See you nalang sa rexona!
@lonerunner comment 423
Will just reiterate my comment 379
“Let the organizers do their job, if they allow bandits then its ok…”
@runner comment 420
@genro comment 422
Kanya kanya lang point of view yan.
@D’sweeper
I have never ever joined a run na hindi ako nagbayad dahil i know what other runner will think or even say if gawin ko yun. If may run sa Roxas Boulevard, i run sa Quirino Grandstand lang and sa sidewalk along Roxas Boulevard. I will never run side to side with paying runners if i didnt pay to run on an event. I buy my own drinks, i run on other routes, and finish at my own finish line during those times. i save money para makatakbo sa mga paid runs with other runners.
@genro I want to correct myself it is cross training not crossing training.
Include in your training runs your target race pace and even the distance you will be joining. It is also important to do a recon so you will be familiar with the race route, it will help you especially if you are setting yourself a PR. Always enjoy the race route, the crowd, and your fellow runners. During the race if you feel the pain in your body don’t worry you’re not the only one. You’re fellow runners are feeling the same way too. If you cannot run all the way to the finish line there is no shame in walking if you need to crawl to finish the race do it.
kumain ng saging mga 2 to 3 b4 tumakbo at hydrate. then pacing pag start ng run muna tamang warm up parin sa muscles and mind. pag mga 10km na eh mejo umarangakda na ng konteng bilis. wag kalimuntang maghydrate sa mga water station. kung mejo naburn out agad eh mag power walk. mahabang hakbang na lakad para makapahinga. after finishline eh stretching at carboload kahit kahit konte kun gdi pa kaya ng katawan.
@genro— 6 to 7hrs 4 sure tapos mo ung 42km. then after mo matapos chka mo iisipin na kaya mo pala tumagal ng 6 to 7hrs. jan ka na maadict ngyn papuntang ultramarathon.next tym mo eh regular training na 21k mo for 3hrs.
2-3 times a week. every morning lng kc ako nkktakbo pag wkdays 4:30 – 5 am. rest ng 5-530 then ligo in prep sa work.
@genro saan ka sa Batangas.
Weekdays I run here in Metro Manila 3 times a week since I work in Manila. Go back home on Friday night so during weekends I’m always at Lipa to train for my back to back long runs. I run the route from Marawoy Barangay Hall to Balete via Levitown vice versa on Saturdays. Then Marawoy Barangay Hall to Mataas na Kahoy via Ayala High-way on Sundays. Sometimes I run from Marawoy Barangay Hall to Malvar 7-11 via highway vice versa.
I will be at Rexona Run 21k and at RU 3 for 32K. I will be joining also Ala Eh Takbo Competition sa Paliparan. Hope to see you.
@comment 426..Wow! Tlga naman… Gusto pa manghikayat na magbandit mga tao… Tsk tsk
Do you think any of these runs will push through kung konti lang mag register and the majority of the runners gagayahin baluktot nyong mentality na magbandit?
There is such a thing as pagtitipid at pagiipon for the registration fee… These runs are announced months ahead anyone can save up kung gugustuhin nila. I am a runner pero di kasing kalibre ng ibang mabibilis dito and but i am dismayed sa feeling ng mga “elite” runners dito of self entitlement na exempted magbayad ng fees kasi mabilis sila tumakbo at di daw sagabal.
@lonerunner
I didn’t say u needed a pacer, i was responding sa question mong bandit ba if a paying runner needed a non-paying friend to pacer him/her at your
379 comment. So i said that the right thing to do is to register the pacer.
As for a bandit dissing a nuisance runner doing photo ops sa race path, its like a pot calling a kettle black.. Pareho lang kayo ng level… Both of these people contribute nothing to the racing scene to do their own thing for their own personal needs.
@GenRo
Wag mo pansinin yung bandit topic… it’s boring and redundant (pareho lang yan nung topic on barefoot and slow runners, and walkers) topics which are not productive in anyway.
Not a veteran, but if you want my advice, I’m also trying to find the best way to eat, train, and cut the fat from my body to help improve efficiency. (Mataba kasi ako, and slow runner to boot)
The first rule I learned in book “Marathon-The Ultimate Training Guide” You can’t train for speed & distance at the same time as a first timer. (It will mess up your legs, mainjure ka) So if your opting for speed, you have to alot 1 day for hill training, and 1 day for speed or tempo per week. Coz if you do speed all the time, you won’t get any faster.
In terms of food, keep your food natural with 60% carbs (corn, rice, kamote etc) no fastfoods! and add some lean protein and veggies in your meals 3 x a day your gold! Mahirap sa lahat yung nutrition… I always mess that one up. Pero I’d love to see what the experts are eating (they always never talk about food! kainis) hehe
What I know, the leaner the body is the faster it is! So what do you guys eat everyday?
Salamat tlga.
Hope to see/meet u guys sa run n 2.
matapang talaga mga bandit, mag sabi na bandit sila. lakas makapag yabang… at parang pino-promote pa… tsk tsk… matapang lang kasi naka tago sa pekeng pangalan… more than 5 years na ako tumatakbo, and hindi ako nag bandit kahit isang beses at hindi ko gagawin to support the running scene here in the phil…
..registered for my first 21k. awryt!
Hindi na po ba ma-extend ang registration?? :(
Extension of registration Pls…..
Bandits never bothered me. Ever.
I am a runner and being selfish to those runners who wanted to run and who never bothered me or anyone else is the last thing I’ll ever do.

Supportahan na lang within the week.

@Night Runner / Mark / Tere & Nuy – just like to ask if ano nman un pde nyo isuggest when it comes to mga gadgets or supports n pde isuot during run? or any alternative kc medyo mahal din ung mga un? cenxa n kung matanong kc it would be better kung manggagaling sa inyo instead n igoogle ko p kc bka mas OK un suggestion nyo kc base sa experience nyo un.
many tnx in advance.
as per Angelo:
“bandit + registered runner = UNITY :)”
For the success of this event… Hope everyone is OK with this.
@ Genro
Madami gadgets out there, meron tayong soleus gps or timex hear rate monitor. I have both. (meron din yung 2 in 1 na heart reate w/ gps pero sobra mahal nasa 12k garmin or timex)
The heart rate is best for first timers, yung mga beginers nagtrain for duration and distance. The GPS is for calculating your distance (pang mga bigatin yun, na di na kaylangan iregulate yung heart nila when running kasi sanay na) sa heart rate monitor masasanay ka tumakbo sa specific pulse na comfortable sa katawan mo.
Sa support kaylangan mo lang sya when in pain or discomfort. As much as possible wag mo sanayin yung legs mo using support kasi di sya titibay.
It will protect you from unwanted injury.
Kung kaylangan mo talaga ng support, save up for some compression pants (usually 5k-7k yata) meron ako zoot ang tatak pero makapal sya sobra init… the only benefit is kahit bugbog ang paa ko nakakatakbo parin ako (I use it for emergency purposes) Yung akin mura lang yata… 3-4k ko yata nabili. You can also use these compression pants after your runs, it will speed up recovery!
@GenRo comment 459
Men in tights ?
nagpanic ako kahapon nun naalala kong until july 29 lang pala ang registration. nabusy sa work at nakalimutan na ang pagtakbo. buti at naextend. anniversary run ko to kaya i wouldn’t miss the opportunity to relive that moment when i finished something i thought i couldn’t. see you on the road guys! keep running. :)
@Mark – cguro may mali nga dun s gnwa ko nung una. nag kayayayaan lng kc nung time n un. tpos nung may sked ng 21K eh grab agad ako not knowing n may mga dpat plang sundin when it comes to running. Wla kc nag guide pre umasa lng kc ako sa mga inputs nung officem8 ko n bihasa n sa running. nwala din sa isip ko na magsearch p sa net ng mga do’s and dont’s.. buti n nga lng pre at na discover ko 2ng site ng PInoy Fitness.. atleast anjan kau to help and guide us.
As for the ankle pain eh na eperience ko un nung 1st 21K ko.. kya dami ng lakad n gnwa ko..cguro may mali sa gnwa ko kya gnun un ngyare. nwei, di n nman xa naulet nung masundan p ng 3 runs.. 10K sa UPLB – 16K (na 14.2 yta sa Spring Board) then 10K ulet sa Gr8 Bank. ifollow ko din un Tip ng Tun Rio re foot impact.. malamang kya sumakit eh dhil pag natakbo eko eh toes un nauna.. dpat pla eh land in the middle..
At un reason bkit ako natakbo eh 1st mamaintain ko un pagiging pgysically fit. naranasan ko kc 2maba at lumaki ang tyan(from sobrang payat) at sobrang hirap pla. 2nd eh maimprove un endurance ko. im not into speed kya mga long distances un gus2 ko takbuhin.3rd eh un fun during run. pra sakin achievement n matapos ko un run.iba pkiramdam lalo n at nkikita mo un mga finisher medal (ang babaw eh. hehehe) 4th magiging part kc ng program sa company nmin.. we’ll earn points pag sumali sa events like this. hehehe.. ang babaw b ng mga rason ko pre? hehehe….
@GenRo
Kung makalibre much better than cheaper :)
Good luck sa runs mo
@genro
@mark: endurance before speed, tama ba, sir?
Para sa akin, “just as important” as the actual mileage accumulation yung stretches and muscle strengthening excercises.
@Mark / Tere / Angelo – many thanks! overwhelming un responses nyo sa queries ko. Sna mabasa 2 ng mga beginners like me. kc dami ko maling gngwa sa mga runs ko. Buti n lng tlga anjan kau to help us.
(“wag mo baliin legs mo”) noted un shoes sa runnr. pag iipunan ko yan.. currently eh nike at un fila gngmit ko
@QP comment 466
@Genro comment 463
10k sa UPLB ? KapaligiRun ?
May naiwan syang pamilya.
ang kinatatakutan ko lang ung shin sprint injury!this is my first time to run 21k!by the way kelan po makukuha ung siglet namin?
Ditto. Endurance first, speed second for me in training. =)
@Genro 469
@GenRo
57mins sa 10k? first time mo? para sa akin mabilis un. . first 10k ko kasi almost 59 na :)
Good luck sa mga next event mo :)
@angelo – pang 3rd 10K ko n yan. un first 10K ko eh bka umabot n 1:30 un 2nd eh 1:07 e2 un 3rd ko n 57 min..mas mabilis k nga pre. hehehe
@genro
ah ganun pala.

The reason for gadgets is pychological, para meron tayo basis na masabi nating ah! me improvement pala ako at mamotive to keep on training.
Nasabi ko lang yun ‘wag mo babaliin kung legs mo’ coz alot of runners push themselves to hard (hard enough that the legs can’t cope) and they get serious injuries… once injured your legs will never be the same… the pain and the fragilness will remain for the rest of your running life.
Kaya, avoid injury, if you feel pain STOP.
Maganda na yung time mo sa 10k, estimate ko if you do a 21k 2:30 siguro. Ako 10k ko is 1:30 mabagal lang talaga ako.
At this point you should clarify your goals, do you want to train for speed? or for distnace? then stick to it. Coz progress only comes from months of hard training… hindi mabilisan yan, that’s what causes injuries in the first place.
Ako kahit mabagal okay lang… I’m training for distance. Hope I can reach the final leg of the RU the marathon. Sana lang… it will probably take me 6hrs or more pero basta makatapos… at makatapos ng buhay, yun ang goal ko hehe. Next yeal I’ll start training for speed and sprint triathalons. Diba attainable goals ko? =)
Run safe, run happy!
Kita kits nalang sa rexona at sa ru3. hehe
kahit ba hindi makuha ung cutoff time for 21k may medal pa din ba ?
@ genro good luck kabayan sa takbo mo sa Milo San Pablo. Dati tumakbo ako sa Milo Batangas ng 2010 if I remember right we are just about 50 runners then sa 21k. But now the numbers are growing and that is good for the sports. I will also join ru3 for the 32k. Run happy and be safe.
@john comment 484
sir, mainstream race po ang rexona. Kahit lakarin yung buong 21k, may medal sa finish line.
@John – yes may fin. medal khit di ka umabot sa cut off time. kc un cut off time eh applicable lng sa key chain. meaning kung umabot k sa cut off time nila eh may bonus ka key chain. ayus dba?
Running for 21k, kitakits.. :)
yosi pa minsan minsan, pampalakas ng lungs un.
regarding bandits,
I run from malacanang to moa at least twice a week and i meet a lot of regular runners. come sunday, these “regulars” almost always have to give way to runners of big running events. you will notice, they dont have those fancy compression attire, electronic gadgets, or even garmins. a regular stopwatch is the usual fare, sometimes not even a wristwatch. but the joy of running is etched on their psyche. I wish running will not create a divide between the “haves” and the “have nots” in this sport. A race is a race, but please let us be more tolerant to others regardless of why they run.
Days more to go and it’s Rexona Run!!!
Rainy weekend but still had a chance to train. Feels great to have a running buddy, you’ll get inspired and can push yourself to the limit.
Enjoyed the run yesterday with my yummy-bear lakay… LOL
How about you guys?! Ready this coming Sunday?!
Keep running! See you guys on the road. :)
May onsite registration po ba?
IN-STORE Registration: [xxx–July 2 to 29, 2012–xxx] Extended till Aug 10

Until now eh wla p din un race kit ko… 2 wks since mag register ako.. RunRio any update?
@pinoy.ph: i heard from a friend that there was supposed to be an onsite reg yesterday at kellog’s. but semething went wrong with the bibs, so those who came were allowed to run for free. baka po sila yun, so they weren’t really bandits :)
@John – no problem pre, hope matapos ntin preho ng safe un 21K
@Honey Williams – nainquire ko n yan b4 if may onsite registration pero as per 1 of the bloggers here eh usually daw pag RunRio organizer eh wla cla onsite registration
as per RunRio eh RAIN OR SHINE 2loy dw 2ng event n to pero hope maging OK un weather this sunday. wag din sna uminit ng todo.. hehehe.. c u all runners khit until now eh wla p din race kits ko..
