Kenyan Daniel Coringgo easily ruled the Yakult 10-miler that started and ended yesterday at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
The 22-year-old, 6-foot-1 Kenyan from the capital city of Nairobi, lead from the starting gun, clocking 50 minutes and 21 seconds to become the first foreigner to win annual footrace now on its 22nd year.

The win was Coringgo’s fifth in three months. He won the Subic Bay Trail Run last week.

Coming in second some 200 meters behind was Coringgo’s compatriot Philip Ronoh, who checked in 50.37 seconds, followed by 2008 champion Alley Quisay, who clocked 53.38.

The 29-yeaqr-old Quisay outsprinted Roger Denolo, who came in 54.09, followed by Rey Sanvictores in 1:01.16.
“When I heard the starting gun, I spurted right away and never looked back. I’m happy I made it in my first try in this race,” said Coringgo showing no sign of exhaustion despite running for 16 kilometers.

“I ran trouble free. No leg or stomach cramps. The weather condition was perfect,” he added.

Coringgo won P7,000, Ronoh received P3,000, and Quisay P2,000 plus trophies and Yakult Energy Drinks from Yakult plant manager Mitsuo Taniguchi.
Mischelle Gilbuena, a runner from Cebu, shared honor with Coringgo by ruling the distaff side in 1:05.19, outpacing Cavite-based Ailene Tolentino and Meriam Miranda, who clocked 1:07.39 and 1:15.52, respectively.

Gilbuena, Tolentino and Miranda won P7,000, P3,000 and P2,000, respectively.

Aver Sister won the 5k in 19.08 seconds, edging Ronald Pelayo in 20.18 seconds and Edenia Villanueva took the female side in 23.49 seconds ahead of Jennybave de la Cruz and Rain Tan, who came in 23.49 and 23.54, respectively.

The top three male and female finishers in the 5k received prizes from special project manager Kenji Egabi.

Jayson Ang won the 3k in 11.57 seconds and Trishia Ramirez ruled the girls’ side in 11.55 seconds. They received their prizes from assistant technical manager Koji Kuroda.

Some 2,200 runners competed in the race supervised by race director Rudy Biscocho.

  1. Para dun sa baklang kalbo na muntik na akong banggain kanina nung malapit na sa Finish Line, (alam ko hindi muntik yun, alam ko sinasadya mo yun) I am not your competition kung naiinsecure ka sakin kasi may ilang races na nauunahan kita, we both know that.

And I don’t know how long you’ve been running kasi ako nung June 19 last year sa Rock and Run ako nag start tumakbo.

Well, we did 16K in 1:40ish… you’re just a second ahead of me.

  2. Tekla, sorry to hear about that.I’m sure whoever was that, he didnt mean to outspeed you. I have experienced the same too before and felt the same sentiments. But sooner you will realize..In running your direct competitor is “yourself”, he certainly competes with himself, he catches his new time and i know you know that Runner’s addiction. Runners have P.R. to catch and not unless they directly and deliberately afflict pain or violation in you..then its their fault and should say “sorry” to you. It also came into your senses na he should look for other runner who has his same speed or agility to compete with..beside how sure are you na ikaw ang ina-outspeed nya? darling, i’m pretty sure it’s not that way..just avoid feeling that way..and you should know about it coz ur running since June 2010..I, myself is a runner too, running since 2009..this experience has its purpose..remember that..Do not hate specific person or even a runnning group..its your choice to join any races and be prepared of any incident like this and face it strongly without bitterness and excuses. After all, running should be fun and competitive side of it follows next. Happy running!

di na pinag aaksayahan yang mga bagay na yan..at least safe po kayong naka-cross ng finish line knowing your condition during the race.. :D ..

takbo lang ng takbo …. :D

  4. To the Yakult Organizer, ask ko lang sana if how can we get our race certificate for this race? Ano yun i-mail ba sa amin? Sabi po kasi meron daw pero finisher’s shirt (jersey) and a Yakult drink lang inabot after the run. Thanks.

  5. @tekla: hayaan mo na sila, at least for your part you did your best. And it’s really difficult to understand that in running, the real competition is not about racing with other runners but eventually we’ll all learn that the real competition is against the little voice in our head that wants us to quit.

  6. congratz to us all, especially 16k finishers!!

there were enough water stations at may sponge station pa… good job!!

sori nga pla s nasikuhan kong lalaki knina hbang nsa race… hehehe

  7. Ms. Tekla,

I am sure the person did not intend to hit you in any way. You see, when you are “in the zone” so to speak, and that you are sprinting to get that “strong finish” you can’t just stop. You (who claim to have been running for some time now)of all people should know that. One second, 2 seconds, a minute, 30 minutes in time difference does not matter. I AM A SLOW RUNNER, but that does not affect me. You and I both know it is not in the gear you wear, but if you can cover the distance.

You say you are not welcome in ANR-MOA? If you have frequented our group, you will notice that ANR-MOA has 200+ members to date. Surely there has got to be a reason why the group keeps on growing considering it is one of the youngest groups.

Let me personally invite you to join us again… You may look for me (the name I used here is what they call me at ANR-MOA, and trust me, MOST OF THEM KNOWS BOOBOO)I will wait for you and post here about the experience in meeting / not meeting you — you know where to find the group.

    Have a nice day.

  8. @ Booboo, i wanted to join a running clinic to learn more about running and hopefully to gain friends or join the running network, luckily nakaregister ako noon sa Adination when I join last year’s KOTR. So when I heard of opening the MOA site natuwa ako kasi on Wednesdays nandun talaga ako to run after hearing a mass at Baclaran. To my excitement, first time ko to join the group, e nagsuot ako ng tamang gear for running, na di ko naman akalain na magmumukha pala akong mayabang sa iba dyan. Wala akong kakilala, tahimik lang ako nakijoin sa takbuhan then may narinig akong isang taong maliit nung nakita ako, biglang tiningnan ako mula ulo hanggang paa at nagparinig ng “may mahangin dito” sabay tingin sya sa grupo nya at tawanan sila.

Minsan nakikita ko sa races and sa iba pang lugar mga familiar faces na nakita ko dyan sa MOA, napapansin ko lang, (oh well since iisa lang naman ang CWX ko dahil yun lang naman ang kaya kong bilhin kaya palagi ko yun suot lalo na pag long run to protect my knee cause I have a knee problem that’s why invested on CWX) parang they would give me this awkward look tapos biglag magtatawanan.

  9. booboo – shouldn’t it be covering the distance in the best possible time your body could?

otherwise you could just stay on a treadmill.

  10. nde nlng tumakbo ng tumakbo! sobra nmn makapagreact .. bkit knina nasa run sya nde nya kinausap at dito sya ngrereact ! … gusto mapagusapan sya .. sobrang artistahin nmn! … yakult run nmn toh nde showbiz ..

  12. Ms. Tekla,

I am sorry, IF that DID happen… I have never experienced such ever since I joined ANR-MOA. I have said all what I need to say in my previous post. I beg to disagree, but I can vouch for most members of ANR-MOA (yes, including the “kalbong bakla” and “little tomboy lady” — if my hunches are correct)

Again, it is not about the gear… I invest on my running gear as well, so let us not talk about it. I don’t think it will make you “mayabang” or people would judge you if you can afford CW-X or 2xu or if you run in Newtons or Asics… It is a matter of preference.

Anyway, you are still welcome to join ANR-MOA. I will not comment anymore after this since we are OFF TOPIC already.
MY INVITE STILL STANDS, if you decide not to come, then I guess we just have to let it pass since ranting and posting negative comments on this site would just do nothing.

    Have a nice day.

  13. To: Tekla–In full respect to you, Tekla..i understand what you feel. But do you think those runners that you called “kalbong bakla” and “tomboy na maliit na matanda” deserve respect and fair treatment too..the way you called or tagged them with your arrogant adjective is a clear sign that you’re not a “mature runner” the strictest sense of the word. All accidents and unexpected phenomenon inevitably happen in RUNNING.It so sad that despite your age 41 with 2 kids you still feel that paranoia na ikaw ang pinagtatawanan?..I myself enrolled in a Running clinic or special sessions too to improve my running skills, gain friends and overcome my weaknesses. You have entered a highly challenging sports–Running..therefore you should be prepared mentally, physically, spiritually and socially.Besides, there are lots of hazards in Running and you “must” be aware of that. collision of runners in the field, runner gets wet by a nearby runner who thrown cup with water, runners who spit while in the course and others are just few unavoidable incidents. And don’t blame them of such “accident” and Do not despise other runners because you thought that they simply criticize you or whatever reasons they have.In short “huwag ma-praning!”..Don’t expect so much refined manners from different runners while running..remember the basic of running “Runners are different in everyway” then if you want to experience these hazards ..go out and find a sport that fits your taste and won’t require physical challenge like playing board games, eating challenge or alike.Coz darling, If you continue that feeling, I guess attending session or clinic clearly applies to you.

  14. just an observation… i notice some of the runners they tend to be “mayabang” if they are a member of a running clinic lolz. there was a girl kanina i was like ahead of her then on the 2nd loop nauna cya sakin she even looked at me and smiled in a mayabang way of smile. parang duh….wats ur problem? but since i love running i ignored her then sad to say i was like ahead of her at the finish line. nung 3rd loop na nauna na ko sknya sa may outside line na ko dumaan just to make her feel na im not competing her even the marshal shouted at me ng “mam sa loob po kayo tumakbo bka masagi kayo ng mga sasakyan”. then i saw her ngayn on one of the pics of the running clinic. ah kaya pala mayabang cya she is a member of….lolz

  15. guys if you use sports-tracker on your nokia to monitor your progress then maybe we could compare personal records and share tips on running. im new in this running sport and currently into boxing and bking. add me at sports-tracker.com rosliali.. congrats to all runners.

two thumbs up para sa yakult!

  17. Don’t mind other runners na lang. Just concentrate on yourselves. You are competing against yourself naman and not with other runners. kung gusto nilang mauna e di mauna na sila. Remember, we are racing for ourselves only… beating our Personal Record. Me, I’m happy and contented with my run yesterday, coz i made a new PR compared to my condura run. (17mins improved).

Actually, when we start to see the finishline, our mind was to make a sprint to reach them as fast as we can so hindi na maiiwasan na may maunahan tayo or may mauna sa atin. wala lang sikuhan. di ba? Let’s respect each other.

  18. Affordable race, well organized, non-commercial and non-showbiz type event. Two thumbs up to Yakult Philippines!

The organizers announces that they have to re-route to 16K event to avoid congestion with the other run – Run Manilenyo, so the 16K is only 15.5K.

By the way re 16K results is incomplete I guess. Please check it out.

  19. 300 lang po ang number of runners sa race results. parang eto lang ata yung matitibay kasi yung mga katulad ko na more than 2 hours tumakbo e wala dun :(

  20. hi, just want to know, may certificate ba yung finishers ng 10 miler?

after I got the Yakult and the shirt, sa sobra excitement, di ko na naisip kung meron…

It was my 1st 10 mile run and did it in 1:48 :D

    congratulations to all!!!

  21. sayang di nadepensahan ni mr. quinsay. . .congrats ate bave. . lakas mo po :)

ganda ng result may pace time pa. .

thanks to Coach ronnel go. . sayang di ko nakuha target ko makapasok kahit top 20 :)

better luck next time. . .thanks sa yakult, go one :)good cold water and sponge. . refreshing

  22. thanks for the post Pinoy fitness!!!

Congrats to all the 10 mile finishers…

Announcement was announced that the distance was cut short to 15.5 due to un avoidable merge from other races…in order to avoid that, they have to sacrifice some meters…nevertheless, great route parin

@pinoyfitness, ganun po ba talaga yung time na released sa 1st and 2nd ng female sa 5K? pareho sila ng time? Thanks

  23. congrats to all runners!! yup the route was short (15.3kms) and quite boring but hydration was well provided kaya ok na rin.

aga ng results though kulang pa nga.

    rate for this run: 7/10

  24. @jobz: yes dear, that’s why i’m excited to see my PR coz at the finish line, my PR improved really a lot. I hope yakult will post the rest of the list. Wait i have to tell you that after passing the finish line, i noticed 2 ladies, one was announcing the color, bib no. and finish time of the runner to the other, and the latter logging it down on her big notebook? Natawa nga ako coz i thought its being done manually, wala bang timing sensor sa start/finish line?

  25. 2 lang kami ng officm8 ko coz the other one, his wife suddenly had a pregnancy issue kaya bigla siyang uwi. Congrats you’re a fast runner.

  27. @ronron: you’re comment is amusing, hindi naman pang girl ang time mo. Anyway ang result list stopped at 1:30 something only, the rest is missing.

  28. @jobz: if you’re working in makati, we regularly run at the ayala triangle. I can assure you we’re nice people, and you sound like a nice person. Feel mo mag-join, just tell me what would be your distinguishing mark and your gender, so i can easily recognize you. Normally we run late in the afternoon, around 4 or 4:30pm.

  29. @cecille 5pm out ko, this wed nsa runnr academy ako, ngjoin b kyo dun? male po me, every tues my anr sa ayala tri, late n kc 7pm…

  30. @jobz: no, i didn’t join any running clinics kasi its either far or late na ang start, sayang nga ang ANR late na, it’s just right at back of our office, so i do my own self training. If given the chance sa group lang ni coach rio para walang mang-ookray at yayabangan ako ng ibang running students. Anyway hope to meet you in the next running event, maybe run for japan, to help our filipino kababayans and TNF CAMSUR.

  31. @jaydee sori were just discussing nmn sa yakult e, un land d kc tyo mgkakakilala dto d b? sna my mga group meet rin tyo dito pra we can discuss ang ating mga experiences, thank you…

  32. The 10 Mile route was shortened due to the expected congestion under the Buendia flyover. We have to transfer the turn around point from under the Buendia flyover to the decending side of the Buendia flyover. We announced that the route would be more or less 15.5K

We submitted the complete race results of 738 finishers, but maybe the space allocated for our results is only for 300 finishers.

  34. Congratulation to all the finishers 16,5 and 3K :-). Kumpleto naba yung result kasi i didt see my name or my friends name hanggang 300 lang yung lumalabas?

  35. @jobz. haha.. uhm *clueless* haha aatend lang ako ng lectures. hindi ko kasi kinaya yung takbo part. medyo busy kasi last week sa congress, so yun haha. baka nga magcancel na ako altogether, since hahabulin ko yung Milo Clinic sa Abril.

  36. what do u expect for a 300php reg fee? a timing chip?lolz…. we shld be thankful that it was well organized and theres enough hydration stations. :-)

  38. @chefrunner: i was also one of those na pinaakyat ng flyover hahaha but i indeed i enjoyed and had fun.

  39. confused din ako. my nephew and i started the race together and ended it together, pero sa results, mas mabilis pa sya sa akin ng 9 minutes? weird.

but all in all, it was fun. and very organized.

What time nga ba ung gunstart ng 5K.. pass 11-12 mins na ata yung nsa timer nun?

  41. @pinoyfitness: may race photos po ba? kung wala ok lang. mura naman yung race pero maganda pagkaka-organize. kudos to all finishers!

  42. prang mali ung results.. kasi pass 11-12 mins na sa timer nung nag gunstart for 5K… ibabawas pa ba un? tska nka pedometer din po ako iba ung time. =D

  43. good day, share with same sentiments with louize, nauna ako sa mga friends ko sa finish line but when i see the results nauna pa sila, i think around 10mins nadagdag sa time ko, what happened kaya? hopefully u resolve this problem kasi we are targeting pa naman to beat our own PRs, thanks.

  44. tnx, nakita ko na results ko, hirap pla mg run ng d ngbreakfast, the night before grad ng cousin ko steak ang kinain nmin, tpos d na me kumain dhil late na kmi umuwi…next time kain na me hehehe!!!

  45. 1st run ko ayos! haha.. Kelangan pa ng practice:D 5km for 30:07.. Do you think it’s enough to run 10km for around 55mins or below? thanks for the comments:D

  46. @ ivan: ayus yan! first 5k ko nga 1hr 4mins :) overweight kasi ako kaya ambagal ko tumakbo. kung 30mins first run mo, bibilis pa yan!

  47. @ivan: if thats ur 1st tym then thats a good PR. as long as u have enough training you can run 10k :-) congrats!

    Kudos to Yakult!

  48. Please call 7279987 for your certificates. Likewise we will review the 5K results. We will try to request pinoyfitness if they can accomdate some photos. Thank you all for your nice comments. We will try to address some of your concerns next time. More power to all!

  49. yes! congrats to mr. biscocho and the rest of the yakult team for organizing this run! :D this is my first 16k and it was wonderful! sana lahat ng run ganito, organized and affordable. my communication pa with the organizers – di tulad ng iba, pagkatapos ng run, di ka na papansinin ng mga organizers…sana nga lang sa marathon natin makuha unang gold ng PHL sa olympics

  50. talked a while ago to Mr. Biscocho regarding the certificate. Again thanks a lot to Yakult and to the race organizers. You did great! Hope there will be more runs that are well-organized yet budget-friendly.

  51. thank you Mr. Biscocho! :)

ang saya ng Yakult 10-miler, eto yung klase ng run na tinatakbuhan ng mga magulang pa natin noon. its a simple, no-frills run but they’ve covered the basics: may marshals, water station at record ng time. walang photovendo, party at the finish line because its all about the simple joy of running! dami pating mga beteranong runners, i can only just imagine that they’ve been racing with yakult for decades.

sana, tumagal pa kayo ng another 22 years and more! :)

  52. @ Sir Rudy: Thanks a lot for taking note of our comments, my bib no. is 2291 with 38:10mins, my estimate time po sana is between 28-30 mins. But honestly I enjoyed the run last Sunday, hopefully you’ll organize another run before the year ends. God bless!
